Position Overview

The Manager, Enterprise Analytics & Reporting leads a multidisciplinary team of analytics and reporting developers, business intelligence professionals, and data engineers responsible for developing, maintaining, and governing enterprise analytics, reporting, and data solutions across Tableau, Epic Clarity, Databricks, and other approved platforms.

This role combines people leadership, technical expertise, and business partnership. The Manager works with commercial, clinical, operational, and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable dashboards, reports, data products, and analytical solutions. The role is also responsible for establishing reporting standards, improving the usability and consistency of the reporting environment, managing demand and priorities, and ensuring the organization can confidently use data to support decision-making.

The Manager intentionally grows the engineering capabilities of the team over time, helping reporting and business intelligence developers build the skills and practices needed to deliver increasingly scalable, reusable, automated, and engineering-oriented data and analytics solutions.

This role requires consistent onsite presence in Madison, WI up to four days a week.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of analytics and reporting developers, business intelligence professionals, and data engineers supporting Tableau, Epic Clarity, Databricks, and related enterprise data and reporting technologies.
  • Organize and prioritize team responsibilities, assign work, manage performance, conduct performance reviews, and support employee development and engagement.
  • Build the engineering capability of the team through development plans, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on opportunities that help reporting developers expand into data modeling, automation, integration, testing, source control, and scalable solution-design responsibilities.
  • Assess the team's current and future skill needs and develop a workforce strategy that evolves reporting, analytics, and data engineering capabilities in alignment with the organization's movement toward more engineering-oriented solutions.
  • Partner with commercial, clinical, operational, and technology stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate them into clear data, reporting, analytics, and engineering requirements.
  • Lead the development of business definitions, metrics, measure specifications, dashboards, reports, data pipelines, curated data sets, and analytical solutions that meet end-user needs and align with established standards.
  • Provide technical and functional direction for the design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise reporting, analytics, and data engineering solutions.
  • Determine the appropriate reporting, analytics, or data engineering platform and solution approach based on business requirements, data availability, complexity, performance, scalability, maintainability, and user experience.
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance for Tableau dashboard development, data source design, application architecture, performance optimization, and platform best practices.
  • Provide oversight for Epic Clarity reporting and Databricks-based reporting and data engineering solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, orchestration, and integration across enterprise systems.
  • Review the existing reporting and data environment and lead efforts to consolidate, standardize, modernize, or retire reports, dashboards, pipelines, and data assets where appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain reporting and data engineering governance practices, including development standards, documentation, quality controls, testing, naming conventions, source control, deployment practices, ownership, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain a centralized inventory of reports and dashboards, reporting requests, priorities, dependencies, and system conversion impacts.
  • Manage reporting and data engineering demand through a transparent intake and prioritization process aligned with organizational priorities and team capacity.
  • Identify and manage reporting and data engineering requirements, scope, risks, and dependencies associated with system implementations, database migrations, platform conversions, and new data integrations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for enterprise data, reporting capabilities, dashboards, metrics, data pipelines, and reporting processes.
  • Support the integration of internal and external data into enterprise reporting and analytics solutions and assess how new data sources complement existing information.
  • Analyze commercial, clinical, and operational data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring further investigation.
  • Promote reusable, scalable, and maintainable data and reporting solutions that reduce duplication, manual effort, fragile processes, and reliance on ad hoc reporting.
  • Communicate team goals, priorities, decisions, risks, and progress clearly to employees, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Build productive relationships and consensus across functions in a complex, cross-cultural, and matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and sound judgment when working through ambiguity, changing priorities, and new information.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in analytics, data science, computer science, management information systems, business, healthcare administration, healthcare-related science, or a related field.
  • 8 or more years of progressive experience in business intelligence, analytics, enterprise reporting, data engineering, data integration, or a related discipline.
  • 3 or more years of experience leading, managing, or directing employees or multidisciplinary technical delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise business intelligence, reporting, and data solutions from requirements gathering through implementation and ongoing support.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or providing technical leadership for reporting developers, analysts, data engineers, or other technical professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop technical staff, including expanding team capabilities in data engineering, automation, scalable solution design, or related engineering practices.
  • Professional working knowledge of Tableau, including dashboard design, data source development, performance optimization, publishing, security, and development best practices.
  • Professional working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts, including the ability to review queries, understand data models, and guide technical solution design.
  • Working knowledge of modern data engineering concepts, including data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, dimensional or analytical data modeling, testing, and production support.
  • Experience translating business needs into reporting requirements, metric definitions, functional specifications, data requirements, and scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience establishing or applying reporting and data engineering development standards, quality controls, documentation practices, and governance processes.
  • Experience managing multiple reporting, analytics, or data engineering initiatives, stakeholder priorities, and technical dependencies in a complex organizational environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and operate effectively in a cross-functional and matrixed environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
