Director of Accounting
Summary/Overview
Responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the implementation of effective internal controls. This role leads the accounting team and collaborates closely with senior leadership to support strategic financial planning and decision-making.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate and manage external audits and liaise with auditors
  • Manage general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, overheads, inventory, hedge accounting and bank reconciliations
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced challenging environment where new procedures and control need to be developed to adapt to changes in business requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth
  • Establish clear goals and performance metrics for the team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning
  • Partner with other departments to ensure financial alignment with organizational goals
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation
  • Oversee the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and software
  • Ensure data integrity and security within financial systems
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5 years in a leadership role
  • Experience with hedge accounting under ASC 815, including hedge designation, effectiveness assessment, documentation, and accounting treatment for commodity and derivative hedging activities.
  • Experience in Physical and Financial Commodity Trading; primarily Oil amp; Gas
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Excel
  • High attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s or CPA
  • Experience with RightAngle
Leader Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the Accounting team which includes Assistant Controller, three senior and three staff accountants.
