Job description

The Manager of Accounting provides financial leadership and technical expertise in overseeing accounting operations, monthly close processes, capital and treasury accounting, and financial reporting. Under the limited supervision of the Controller, this role ensures compliance with US GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies. The Manager leads the accounting team in delivering accurate and timely financial information, supports audits, and manages complex financial issues with independence and strategic insight. This role also contributes to workforce planning, cross-training, and the professional development of team members, while upholding the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital. 

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee timely and accurate completion of monthly and quarterly financial close activities. 

  • Conduct thorough reviews of all balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance. 

  • Supervise accounting for capital assets, construction in progress (CIP), and treasury functions. 

  • Maintain financial reporting standards and ensure adherence to accounting policies and regulatory requirements. 

  • Monitor and improve internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity. 

  • Serve as the lead for audits including single audits, grant compliance, and other external financial reviews. 

  • Develop annual management discussion and analysis and other required public financial disclosures. 

  • Oversee external billing and collections processes unrelated to patient services. 

  • Lead workforce planning, cross-training, and professional development initiatives for accounting staff. 

Education: 

Bachelor's degree: Accounting, Finance or related field

Certification: 

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Work Experience and Additional Information:

Five (5) years of progressive financial experience, with at least 3 years of equivalent leadership experience. Experience in financial accounting and reporting 

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of US GAAP, financial statement preparation, consolidations, and capital accounting. 

  • Ability to independently resolve complex accounting issues using advanced quantitative and qualitative techniques. 

  • Skilled in designing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls, asset capitalization, and audit readiness. 

  • Strong organizational skills to manage monthly close cycles, reporting deadlines, and ad hoc requests efficiently. 

  • Ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences including team members, operational leaders, and senior               management. 

  • Experience in workforce planning, cross-training, and mentoring staff to ensure high performance and continuous growth.
