Job description

The Nuuly Senior Buyer for Beauty + Wellness is responsible for creating an exciting, timely, and highly curated beauty and wellness assortment. This role requires a true builder mentality, deep multi-brand category expertise, strong financial acumen, and the ability to work highly cross-functionally to build the infrastructure, onboarding processes, and product storytelling needed to scale this business.


  • Merchandising & Strategy: Develop a compelling assortment strategy from the ground up, identifying the core brands and products that align with the Nuuly customer's lifestyle, drive brand heat and encourage retention and engagement.
  • Financial Acumen & OTB Management: Exhibit sharp financial acumen by fully owning the OTB (Open-to-Buy) for the Beauty & Wellness category. Deliver the sales volume, margin, and UPT (Units Per Transaction) targets. Analyze metrics (conversion, velocity, profitability) and respond to current trends to identify opportunities.
  • Vendor Strategy & Negotiation: Lead direct vendor negotiations, margin agreements, and operational onboarding for new brands, as well as extending existing vendor partnerships into the Nuuly ecosystem. Additionally, strategically partner with our current apparel brands to secure their beauty, wellness, and lifestyle extensions.
  • Reporting & Analytics Partnership: Collaborate closely with the RADS (Reporting, Analytics, Data Science) team to define and build the foundational reporting dashboards required for these categories. Routinely synthesize this data to report out on business performance, financial metrics, and strategic insights to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as the linchpin between Buying, Planning, Digital Merchandising & Operations, Marketing, Brand Creative, and Tech teams. Ensure the unique needs of selling beauty/wellness products (e.g., ingredients, shade mapping, compliance) are supported.
  • Communication: Act as the face of Nuuly to the Beauty & Wellness vendor community and our internal brand partners. Foster a sound partnership across all internal business functions to communicate concepts, delivery updates, and trend information.
  • Creative Development: Shop domestic and international markets, track industry trends, and challenge the team to interpret seasonal beauty trends into actionable, highly curated concepts.
  • Organizational Design & Team Building: Establish an organizational philosophy and operational framework for buying within this category ; partner closely with the Head of Product to forecast departmental budgets, define resource needs, and scale the buying team as the business grows.

  • 5+ years of buying experience specifically in the Beauty & Wellness category.
  • Must have experience at a multi-brand beauty retailer or department store.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and proven experience successfully owning and managing an OTB.
  • Demonstrated experience building a category in a "white space" or highly entrepreneurial environment.
  • Expertise in direct vendor negotiation, margin planning, and brand relationship management, as well as the ability to navigate internal corporate matrixes.
  • Strong collaborative skills with a proven track record of partnering with Planning, Tech, Creative, and Digital Merchandising teams.
