The Utilities and Central Energy (UCE) group specializes in large central plant work, particularly for district energy serving cities, universities, hospitals, and manufacturing campuses. Our expertise covers both energy production and distribution. We have expertise in sustainable energy production, simple and combined cycle, combined heat and power, industrial HVAC, and medium voltage power. Our clients look for us to lead large complex projects from concept to completion, including startup, check-out, and commissioning.

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Mechanical Engineer - UCE plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. This individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure code compliance.
  • Performs engineering calculations.
  • Approves final utilities systems/equipment selections and drawing submittals.
  • Leads utilities systems/equipment procurement efforts.
  • Manages projects and teams, ensuring that work efforts and costs are accurately scoped and estimated.
  • Actively manages assigned projects, driving them to completion.
  • Thorough understanding of Architectural design, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering and construction practices.
  • Provides work direction to other team members, including subconsultants, as assigned.
  • Participates in the development and coaching of younger talent needed to meet current and future organization goals.
  • Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
  • May represent KFI at conferences, customer events, and through membership in industry associations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Professional Engineering registration or willingness to pursue this designation.
  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated strong proficiency in utilities generation and distribution systems design.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with Designers, Engineers, and sub-consultants.
  • Ability to establish rapport and credibility with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Project management skills and knowledge of related tools and processes.
  • Ability to assimilate a range of ideas, programs, or alternatives into a set of recommendations.
  • Self-directed and thrives in an environment where consultation leads to superior outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
  • Experience generating technical reports and developing campus utilities masterplans.

Salary Range: $115,000 - $173,000 annually. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
