Job Description

Job summary: The part-time Math Specialist will work with students across grades K through 8th to provide specialized math instruction and support to students, helping students develop math skills while integrating biblical principles into their teaching. The specialist will work closely with classroom teachers to provide support in implementing evidence-based math instruction and interventions.


Spiritual Leadership
  • Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and be a Christian witness and role model to them to help them grow in their faith.

  • Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.

  • Ensure that the classroom work environment is Christian-based, nurturing, wholesome, and loving.


Academic Leadership
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Christian philosophy of education that will help in providing leadership and guidance in the school’s development of and commitment to a Christian worldview.

  • Have knowledge of the school’s curriculum, standards, and mission.

  • Integrate biblical principles and the Christian worldview throughout the curriculum and activities.

  • Teach classes as assigned following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the administration.

  • Ensure that his or her school classroom reflects a professional and Christian environment.

  • Have knowledge of the physical/emotional development of children—particularly at the age level of the children being taught—and understand the problems they face.

  • Plan broadly through the use of semester and quarterly plans and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to determine students' math levels and needs
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to provide targeted instruction.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and materials to help students improve their math skills.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support the implementation of evidence-based math instruction
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional plans as needed
  • Communicate regularly with parents and teachers regarding students' progress
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions
  • Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in math instruction
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills
  • Prepare student summaries to be provided at parent conferences
  • Uphold the mission and values of the school
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ensure that the classroom work environment is Christian-based, nurturing, wholesome, and loving.

  • Participate in the end-of-year school closing process, such as the inventorying of textbooks, furniture, and equipment.
  • Know the procedures for dealing with emergency situations in the classroom. Participate in emergency safety drills.


Physical Requirements


SITE Physical Requirements


  • The teacher must gather his/her children into a cohesive unit and be able to move the students from one area to another area.
  • The lower-school teacher is required to take their students onto the playground and supervise them during outside recess.
  • The lower-school teacher must organize students into units and accompany them outside onto the playground or to the gym located some distance from the lower school building. The lower-school teacher must be able to keep up with students and control them until reaching the playground or gym and remain with the students on the playground.


TEACHING Physical Requirements

  • The teacher must be able to demonstrate lesson concepts using media and other hands-on materials.

  • The teacher is required to prepare evaluation reports, fill in records, and on numerous occasions,

  • communicate with parents in writing.

  • The teacher must have the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards using gross and

  • fine manipulation.


SUPERVISION Physical Requirements

  • The teacher must be able to actively supervise students within the classroom or in the gymnasium area for indoor or outdoor recess. On occasion, the teacher should participate with students in organized games and activities.

  • The teacher must be able to supervise students in their classroom, playground or campus. The teacher must also supervise students at the closing of each day as students are dismissed for carpool.


EMERGENCY Physical Requirements

  • The teacher must be able to quickly summon help when an emergency arises either in the classroom, gymnasium, or on the playground.

  • The teacher is required to render minimal first aid to students who may be injured while in the classroom, gymnasium, or on the playground.


PHYSICAL Demands

  • Caring for children can be physically demanding. The teacher must be able to lift up to 60 pounds. The teacher may be lifting and carrying children and equipment and may spend time sitting on the floor.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-60 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The teacher frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms.
