Our client is a privately held organization with a diverse portfolio of owned and operated assets across multiple business lines. The company is seeking a highly capable Director of Risk to support a sophisticated operating environment and serve as a trusted internal partner to Legal, Finance, Operations, executive leadership, brokers, carriers, lenders, vendors, and other key stakeholders.

This is a highly visible role for someone who can bring structure, judgment, and technical insurance expertise to a complex organization. The ideal candidate will have strong property and casualty insurance knowledge, claims experience, contract risk-transfer exposure, and the ability to manage insurance programs across multiple assets, entities, departments, and operational needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage insurance and risk-transfer programs across corporate and all ownership-related operations.
  • Manage broker and carrier relationships, including renewals, submissions, coverage reviews, market strategy, and policy administration.
  • Oversee insurance coverage lines such as property, general liability, workers’ compensation, auto, builders risk, D&O, EPLI, cyber, crime, inland marine, fiduciary, and specialty coverages.
  • Support executive and ownership personal lines as needed, including high-value property, umbrella, auto, marine/boat, aircraft, and valuable articles coverage.
  • Manage first-party property claims, auto claims, loss documentation, claim follow-up, and communication with brokers, carriers, internal stakeholders, and legal partners.
  • Review insurance language in contracts, including indemnification provisions, additional insured requirements, waivers of subrogation, coverage limits, endorsements, certificates of insurance, and lender requirements.
  • Oversee COI compliance for tenants, vendors, contractors, activations, events, and project-related partners.
  • Support insurance needs related to acquisitions, ownership transitions, new developments, and complex asset integrations.
  • Assist with premium allocation by asset, entity, project, department, or business unit.
  • Bring structure, documentation, accountability, and calm execution to a complex risk and insurance environment.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience in risk management, commercial insurance, insurance program administration, claims, brokerage, real estate risk, construction risk, or a related area.
  • Strong property and casualty insurance background required.
  • Experience with real estate, hospitality, retail, mixed-use, construction, development, or property management strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing broker and carrier relationships.
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance renewals, policy schedules, loss runs, deductibles, SIRs, endorsements, exclusions, and coverage gaps.
  • Experience reviewing contract insurance language, indemnification provisions, COIs, and risk-transfer requirements.
  • Experience with property claims, auto claims, general liability claims, or construction-related claims.
  • Familiarity with builders risk, OCIP, CCIP, wrap-up programs, lender requirements, and construction insurance is highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills, documentation discipline, and attention to detail.
  • Calm, collaborative, professional working style with strong judgment and executive presence.
  • Experience with systems such as Sage Intacct, Yardi, myCOI, Evident, Applied Epic, or similar insurance, claims, compliance, or real estate platforms is a plus.
