Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Marine Design Manager to lead our team of marine designers and drafters in support of autonomous surface vessel development. This role is central to delivering high-quality vessel design across disciplines, setting technical standards, and driving impact in defense innovation.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of marine designers and drafters across 2D and 3D modeling, technical drawings, and production support
  • Own the development and enforcement of drawing standards and best practices across the design organization
  • Partner with naval architects, marine engineers, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to drive new vessel design implementation
  • Oversee new vessel construction documentation, including ship construction drawings and as-built records
  • Mentor, develop, and grow team members in CAD modeling and ship design best practices
  • Ensure marine regulatory compliance across all design documentation
  • Coordinate with production and build engineering teams to manage design-to-build handoffs and resolve technical issues
  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tooling, and team workflows

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or technical certification in Naval Architecture, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field (Associate degree considered with significant experience)
  • 10+ years of CAD drafting and design experience in the marine industry
  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading a team of marine designers
  • Strong expertise across one or more areas of vessel design: general, mechanical, electrical, structural, and piping design
  • Deep knowledge of maritime regulatory requirements, construction tolerances, and vessel construction processes
  • Demonstrated experience managing drawing submittals to classification societies such as ABS, DNV, and LR
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software including NX, ShipConstructor, AutoCAD, and Rhino
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
