The Lead Video Management Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design, development, deployment, and optimization of secure Video Management Software (VMS) and Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) solutions for government clients. This individual leads a team of Video Management System Engineers and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless functionality and performance of enterprise-level video security platforms, including our Surveill VMS.
This position requires strong technical leadership, hands-on experience with enterprise VMS/PSIM technologies, and a proactive, mission-driven mindset to help shape the future of secure video systems for high-impact environments.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of Surveill and other secure video management software solutions.
  • Manage and mentor a team of Video Management System Engineers, ensuring high performance and alignment with project goals.
  • Oversee commissioning logic development, testing, and deployment for PSIM platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the functionality and integration of VMS and PSIM systems.
  • Define product and technical requirements based on stakeholder input and user feedback.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex video system issues with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Ensure system scalability, performance, and uptime across domestic and OCONUS client sites.
  • Lead the deployment and maintenance of video management infrastructure and ensure proper documentation.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including system architecture, configuration, test results, and training materials.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support mission-critical operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Quick learner (much of what we do is proprietary and must be learned on the job).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to guide technical staff.
  • Deep understanding of Video Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of PSIM platforms and their integration with physical security technologies.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, security protocols, and TCP/IP.
  • Proficiency with video technologies including Codecs/Protocols (e.g., h.264/265), Multicast/Unicast, and video streaming.
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server (2005/2008+) and writing SQL queries.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and incidents.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in Physical Security or Force Protection is a plus.
  • Understanding of modern programming languages is helpful but not required.

Qualifications
  • 4-5 years of hands-on experience with enterprise Video Management Systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant military training or industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft) may substitute for a degree.
  • Equivalent combination of education and practical experience in VMS or physical security systems will be considered.
  • One year of practical experience networking or IT
  • Experience and knowledge of the physical security information management industry preferred.
  • Experience in Physical Security / Force Protection preferred.
  • Understanding of modern programming languages (useful but not required; helps to quickly learn PSIM commissioning).

Additional Comments
  • Active Secret or higher U.S. Government security clearance required
  • Position on-site in Alexandria, VA
  • Up to 50% OCONUS travel required
  • On-Call Requirement: Rotating on-call schedule shared across the team.
  • Successful candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation

Salary Range $115k - $150k per year depending on experience
