DESCRIPTION

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist Manager oversees the daily operations of IR Tech services across UCSD Health's multiple sites of service (La Jolla, Hillcrest, and East Campus), ensuring strict adherence to productivity, quality standards, internal policies, and external regulations. Reporting to the Director for Interventional Radiology through the Radiology service line, this leader drives enterprise-wide alignment to unify IR technologist supply management, operational processes, and collaboration. The position provides critical support for Neuro-interventional, Vascular Interventional Radiology, and Vascular Surgery. This position works in close partnership with the IR Nurse Manager to ensure safe patient care, proper specimen handling, fiscal cost savings, and the highest standards of practice.

In this role, the Manager supervises a team of licensed technologists providing procedural patient care, serving as a professional role model and mentor to help staff meet their growth goals. Responsibilities include monitoring staff utilization and productivity and managing appropriate application of equipment and imaging systems. The Manager also participates in recruiting, together with their team, conducts new employee orientation, evaluates individual performance and competency, and recommends necessary changes in staffing and budgeting to maintain efficient laboratory operations.

Additionally, the Manager plays a vital role in clinical quality and workforce development. They actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, recommending enhancements to departmental procedures and policies while consulting with radiology leadership on broader performance improvement strategies. To ensure the team remains at the forefront of the field, the Manager trains technologists on new techniques, systems, operations, and regulations, while coordinating ongoing staff development and competency assessments. Finally, they communicate regularly across services and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to continuously elevate patient care and healthcare operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Eleven (11) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration plus five (5) years of related experience, education/training.
  • One (1) year leadership experience at an academic medical center.
  • Licensed technologist in Interventional Radiology.
  • Experience with subject matter knowledge of a fluoroscopy and CT with an ability to apply principles to an acute care setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.
  • Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities and to quickly assess moderately complex problems to develop potential solutions.
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
  • Must adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One to two (1 to 2) years experience Interventional Radiology.
  • Registered Technologist issued by ARRT.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 - $124.43

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
