Job description

Ecowaste Solutions is one of the fastest-growing companies in the waste management industry, delivering essential services that keep communities and businesses running. We take pride in the hands-on work our team does every day, and we're looking for people who share that same drive and commitment to excellence.

Our General Manager runs their division like their own business, owning the P&L along with sales, hiring, fleet, and day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on leader who can manage people, budgets, and processes while building a division that delivers dependable service and steady growth. This role requires heavy travel across the division.

Responsibilities

• Owns full P&L responsibility for the division, running it like an independent business: managing revenue, expenses, margins, and budgeting to meet financial targets.

• Oversees day-to-day functions of the entire division, including operations, budgeting, purchasing, maintenance, safety, hiring, training, and performance management.

• Manages operations in the assigned division by establishing schedules and assignments, defining goals, communicating expectations, and problem solving. Develops strategies to grow revenue and increase efficiencies.

• Drives new business and revenue growth within the division, partnering with the sales team to pursue new accounts and expand existing customer relationships, including municipal contracts where applicable.

• Oversees purchases in accordance with company guidelines, tracking expenditures, reviewing sourcing for best pricing, and preparing budgets and plans for future needs.

• Oversees compliance with all safety rules, regulations, and protocols, putting remediation measures in place where deficiencies are noted, investigating accidents, and following all reporting requirements. Charges each employee with responsibility for maintaining safety awareness and actively contributing to a safe work environment.

• Manages the division's fleet, including drivers and maintenance operations, to minimize disruptions to daily activities and control costs. Ensures routine vehicle maintenance is carried out on the recommended schedule and develops alternative solutions when a repair is delayed in order to maintain established service.

• Ensures customers experience a high level of satisfaction by providing dependable service and prompt, workable solutions to problems.

• Fills vacant positions within the division with an eye toward retention and promotability, continually searching for talent and anticipating future needs by proactively identifying potential candidates.

• Trains and serves as a mentor to employees within their area of responsibility, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to excel in their current role and preparing them for greater responsibility within the company.

• Manages the performance of employees in the assigned division, offering guidance, encouragement, and coaching as necessary, and developing performance improvement plans when an employee is underperforming in order to establish goals, clarify expectations, and set timelines for change.

• Travels regularly throughout the division to oversee operations, meet with customers, and support teams across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Waste industry experience preferred, but not required.

• Previous experience managing a team, division, or P&L required.

• Demonstrated experience owning a P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and driving profitability, required.

• Experience managing sales, hiring, and fleet operations (drivers and maintenance) preferred.

• Experience with municipal contracts a plus, but not required.

• Valid driver's license required.

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively required.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Regularly moves throughout division facilities, including operations, maintenance, and office areas, to oversee daily activities.

• Frequent use of a computer, phone, and business software for extended periods.

• Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, along with heavy and regular travel across the division to visit sites, meet with customers, and support teams in multiple locations.

• Occasionally lifts and carries materials, equipment, or supplies up to 15 pounds.

• Work is performed in a combination of office, field, and facility environments, and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and equipment noise.

Pay and Benefits

• Weekly pay.

• Multiple health plans available, including a tax-advantaged HSA option.

• Dental and vision coverage.

• Company-paid basic life insurance.

• Retirement plan with a company match up to 5%.

• Safety and retention incentives.

• Paid time off.

• Access to employee discounts through LifeMart.

Ecowaste Solutions offers a competitive base salary, the opportunity to earn incentive pay, and a comprehensive employee benefits package. Please submit your resume and salary history for consideration. Only applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be considered, and only individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
