Title: Project Manager II
Department: Project Management Office
Reports to: Project Management Office (PMO) Manager
Location: Prince George, VA hybrid


Position Summary

The Project Manager II is responsible for managing moderately complex collaborative research and development projects at CCAM. This role works closely with researchers, member organizations, and internal stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of project outcomes. The Project Manager II independently leads planning, execution, and reporting for assigned initiatives and supports process improvements within the PMO.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, resource allocations, and budgets
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned CCAM research and development projects
  • Coordinate internal and partner communications, including status updates and reports
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks with support from senior PMs and researchers
  • Monitor procurement, subcontractor deliverables, and vendor engagements
  • Ensure that all reporting and documentation complies with contractual and institutional standards
  • Support proposal development and grant writing activities as needed
  • Cross-functional collaboration and working in a matrix organizationย

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degreeย 
  • 3-7 years of project management experience, preferably in manufacturing, research, consulting or engineering environments
  • PMP certification (or progress toward certification)
  • Management portfolio sizes up to 250-500K per projectย 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects from initiation through close-out
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Familiarity with project tracking software (Smartsheet, MS Project, or equivalent)
  • Strong communication, coordination, and team-building skills
  • Basic understanding of procurement, budgeting, or contract tracking ย 
  • This position requires access to ย technology or intellectual property that is subject to export control requirements. Candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.ย 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degreeย 
  • PMP certification required

  • Experience working with government, defense, or university partners
