Job description

Location: Hattie Mae White Department: Curriculum Design RLA/SS/DL Area:District Wide Contract Months:12 Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 Academic Year: 26-27 JOB SUMMARY Designs and develops Houston ISD curriculum for Kindergarten through 5th grade Reading Language Arts, including Science of Reading-aligned instruction. Emphasizes creation of high-quality, teacher-facing instructional materials, including slide decks, Demonstrations of Learning (DOLs), literacy activities, and differentiated assignments aligned to daily learning objectives to support effective classroom implementation. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES List most important duties first 1

Designs and develops high-quality, TEKS-aligned K-5 RLA curriculum within the district's instructional framework, including daily lesson materials, assessments (e.g., daily, formative, and summative), and scaffolded supports. 2. Creates differentiated literacy materials to support diverse learners, including scaffolds for reading comprehension and written expression 3

Ensures alignment to TEKS and best practices in secondary literacy instruction MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED 4. Collaborates in PLCs/brain trust sessions and iterates deliverables to refine curriculum, ensure clarity, and improve instructional effectiveness 5. Ensures curriculum is rigorous, coherent, and actionable for teachers, and continuously improves materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes.

6. Participate in professional learning to internalize standards and strengthen literacy curriculum design practices materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes. EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree WORK EXPERIENCE At least 3 years teaching or curriculum experience in elementary literacy SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Oracle SAP Microsoft Office Other: Science of Reading, structured literacy, curriculum design Equipment Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Level 1-No supervisory responsibilities

May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT BUDGET AUTHORITY No budget development activity is required. PROBLEM SOLVING Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval.

Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas. IMPACT OF DECISIONS Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Collaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Anticipates customer needs, identifies, and champions opportunities for the development and implementation of new services and methods to meet or exceed customer needs.

Establishes customer service standards and feedback mechanisms across departments. WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
