Job description

Responsibilities
  • 340B Program Integrity
    • Drug Access Coordination: Serve as the primary procurement liaison for “Limited Distribution Drugs” and specialty medications, ensuring patients have access to critical therapies through approved 340B channels and manufacturer restricted programs.
    • Alternative Distribution Methods: Manage procurement for medications requiring non-traditional ordering pathways. Ensures all purchases are captured within splitting software to maintain compliance and maximize savings.
    • Account Setup and Wholesaler Access: Oversee the technical setup of all 340B, GPO, and WAC accounts
    • Split-Billing Optimization: Oversee the processing of all 340B hospital orders through the Third-Party Administrator to ensure virtual accumulators correctly trigger 340B priced replenishments. Perform regular reviews of drug mapping and multiplier ratios to maintain data integrity and maximize program savings.
  • Retail Pharmacy and Contract Pharmacy Operations
    • Retail Procurement Support: Coordinate with retail pharmacy managers to add new Premier items, add new vendors, and train retail staff on procurement software and 340B workflows
    • Contract Pharmacy Oversight: Monitor 340B contract pharmacy replenishment orders to ensure accuracy and reconcile external invoices between health system and its pharmacy partners.
    • Revenue optimization: Identify and implement opportunities for contract pharmacies to access 340B pricing for eligible scripts, directly increasing the net savings realized by the health system.
    • Identify new ways for retail and contract pharmacies to increase revenue and help implement these changes
  • Financial Operations and Revenue Integrity
    • Revenue Integrity: Ensure high dollar pharmacy charges are being reviewed and provide assistance when needed to each site for corrections to ensure revenue integrity.
    • IT Financial Builds: Submit and oversee new IT builds for pharmacy products, ensuring that the CDM reflects the correct charge amount for financial accuracy.
    • Partners with Pharmacy IT team to make CDM adjustments when needed.
  • Savings and Strategic Sourcing
    • Contract analytics: Utilize HPG resources to identify pharmacy savings and contract opportunities within the system.
    • 80/20 reporting: Analyze 80/20 spend reports and present findings to Finance leadership and P&T committees to execute targeted cost-reduction initiatives
    • Financial Projections: Complete detailed ROI analyses and annual cost savings projections for all proposed pharmacy procurement changes.
    • Work with purchasing team to ensure clinic’s vaccines and drug pricing is accurate and optimal. Work with clinics and hospitals to keep vaccine stocks aligned within the system.
  • Supply Chain and Shortage Logistics
    • Shortage mitigation: Forecast upcoming shortages and work with pharmacy leadership to find ways to deal with shortages
    • Market Monitoring: Provide monitoring of wholesaler availability to secure products during shortages.
    • Annual Inventory Leadership: Work with buyers at each site to coordinate annual pharmacy inventory duties and act as liaison with third party inventory companies to ensure accurate year end financial reporting.
    • Develop a pharmacy buyer’s training program and use that program to train new pharmacy buyers in the system.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience as a pharmacy buyer. Required
  • PHRMTECH-R - Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) Upon Hire Required
  • PHRMTECH-R - Registered Pharmacy Technician - Nationally certified with the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) Upon Hire Required
  • Completion of Apexus 340B University (On Demand Modules) within 180 Days Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
