Research & Development Technician - Genomics

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research & Development Technician - Genomics to support genomics-focused research and development activities using microbiology, molecular biology, and related laboratory techniques. This role is designed for a scientifically curious and collaborative laboratory professional who is interested in genomics and eager to contribute to innovative molecular and microbiology product development activities that support our growing innovation pipeline.
This is a tiered position, meaning the final level (Tech I, Tech II, or Tech III/Senior Tech) will be determined based on the candidate's education, experience, and demonstrated competencies.
To Be Considered for This Position, Candidates Must Have the Following Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related life sciences field
• Experience with genomics methods and analysis preferred
• Interest in genomics, molecular biology, and research and development activities
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• High integrity and commitment to quality and compliance
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Proficiency with standard laboratory instrumentation and software
• Strong communication and technical documentation skills
Tier Differentiation
Tech I
• Minimum of 1 year of related laboratory experience preferred
• Requires training and oversight while developing technical competencies
• Executes validation activities under supervision
• Participates in laboratory maintenance and documentation activities
• Supports production of swabs, pellets, and microorganisms
Tech II
• Minimum of 2-3 years of related laboratory experience
• Independently documents laboratory work and testing activities
• Executes and reports on validation activities
• Manages multiple laboratory tasks and priorities daily
• Troubleshoots basic instrumentation issues
• Develops single- and two-analyte products under supervision
Tech III / Senior Tech
• Minimum of 3-5 years of related laboratory experience
• Independently plans and executes studies and prepares technical reports
• Demonstrates strong scientific troubleshooting and experimental design capabilities
• Mentors and trains junior laboratory staff
• Manages priorities across multiple projects and timelines
• Troubleshoots laboratory experiments and instrumentation independently

What You'll Do
Genomics & Molecular Laboratory Support
• Support genomics-focused research and development activities through laboratory testing, sample preparation, and experimental execution
• Assist with molecular biology workflows including PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid isolation, and nucleic acid quantification
• Support next-generation sequencing (NGS) related activities such as sample preparation, library preparation support, quality control activities, and data organization
• Assist with microbial culture, enumeration, and other microbiology-based laboratory techniques as required for R&D projects
Product Development & Testing Support
• Assist with development, manufacturing, and quality control activities for molecular and microbiology products
• Support manufacturing of R&D test lots and evaluate biomaterial performance according to established protocols and quality requirements
• Participate in testing activities that support new product development, process improvements, and customer-focused solutions
• Assist with preparation and organization of laboratory materials, reagents, and testing components
Research Documentation & Technical Collaboration
• Accurately document laboratory activities, testing results, and research observations according to company procedures
• Support documentation activities related to validations, verifications, qualifications, and product development projects
• Collaborate with Production, Quality Control, and cross-functional teams to support transfer of technical information and project activities
• Assist with revision and maintenance of SOPs and laboratory procedures as needed
Laboratory Operations & Continuous Improvement
• Maintain laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and compliance with laboratory and quality procedures
• Support troubleshooting activities for laboratory processes and instrumentation with guidance as needed
• Contribute to a collaborative and team-oriented laboratory environment focused on continuous learning and improvement
• Support additional R&D and laboratory responsibilities as assigned
