Job description

This job description describes the minimum job requirements. This description is illustrative and does not imply that the functions outlined below are the exclusive standards of this position. Purpose of the Position:

To support the vessels and the shore office by coordinating daily vessel activities between internal and external customers to provide smooth, efficient operations. Provide necessary support to ensure proper billing and collection of revenues.

Core Job Functions:

  • Monitor and execute voyages as per Charter Party terms (spot, COA, or time charters).
  • Ensure compliance with all commercial, operations and legal requirements
  • Appoint and instruct port agents as required.
  • Oversee port calls and cargo operations to minimize delays and costs.
  • Maximize voyage profitability by monitoring speed, fuel efficiency, and management of expenses
  • Monitor bunker prices, arrange for bunker supply and order bunkers as required with the goal of optimization.
  • Liaise daily with vessels, agents, chartering dept., superintendents, and customers to ensure efficient operations.
  • Maintain and strengthen customer relationships through proactive and clear communication.
  • Create, update, and distribute voyage schedules to all relevant parties in a timely manner.
  • Prepare customer review presentations and facilitate meetings as needed.
  • Input daily data into the voyage management system (e.g., vessel positions, revenue, expenses).
  • Monitor laytime and generate demurrage claims with supporting documentation in a timely manner.
  • Manage accounts receivable/payable and ensure accurate accruals for voyage and charter costs.
  • Responsible for collecting all voyage paperwork from the vessels and maintaining the paperwork for office audits
  • Ensure letters of indemnity are received when required and vessels issue letters or protest in accordance with OSG’s management system
  • Responsible for day-to-day data collection for OSG’s Title V air permit and DNREC reporting (Delaware Bay only)
  • Maintain Q88.com and ensure all vetting documents are thoroughly reviewed prior to passing to chartering dept or customers
  • Contribute to the development and revision of Management System procedures when required.
  • Represent OSG in a professional manner to provide efficient and economic service to all customers
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor or manager

Core Competencies: Bachelor’s degree preferred, Maritime Academy graduate preferred

  • Three to five years of solid established experience in barge and/or ship operations ashore and/or afloat preferred
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required
  • Knowledge and understanding of marine contracts and demurrage preferred

  • Ability to travel by air to various US cities possibly requiring overnight stays

  • Willingness to remain accessible for communication and consultation on an around the clock basis and work unusual hours,

including nights and weekends as required.
