Manager Forecasting information

What does a manager forecasting do?

A Manager of Forecasting oversees the process of predicting future sales, demand, or trends for a company. They analyze historical data, market trends, and business inputs to create accurate forecasts that help guide decision-making in areas like inventory, production, and budgeting. Their role often involves collaborating with other departments, leading a team of analysts, and implementing forecasting models or software. Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate insights effectively are essential for this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a manager forecasting?

To excel as a Manager Forecasting, you need strong analytical skills, expertise in statistical modeling, and a background in finance, economics, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with forecasting software, advanced Excel functions, and business intelligence tools like SAP or Oracle is essential. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help you translate data insights and lead cross-functional teams effectively. These skills ensure accurate forecasts, support strategic decision-making, and drive business success.

What are some common challenges faced by a manager forecasting, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for a Manager Forecasting is managing the accuracy of predictions in rapidly changing markets or with limited data. This often requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams such as sales, marketing, and supply chain to gather timely insights and adjust models accordingly. Staying updated with the latest forecasting tools and techniques, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team, can help mitigate these challenges. Additionally, clear communication of forecast uncertainty to stakeholders is crucial for effective decision-making.

Job description

About the Role

E-Commerce Forecasting & SKU Strategy Manager

At Blue Marble, we believe in the power of play to spark curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning. We create innovative toys and experiences that inspire kids—and kids at heart—around the world.

We're seeking a data-driven Ecommerce Forecasting & SKU Strategy Manager to lead demand planning, inventory strategy, and SKU performance across our marketplace channels, including Amazon, Walmart, Target+, and other ecommerce platforms. In this role, you'll ensure the right products are available at the right time while optimizing inventory health, profitability, and operational efficiency.

Working closely with marketplace, logistics, and supply chain teams, you'll develop forecasting models, drive process improvements, and lead initiatives that support sustainable growth. This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic, hands-on leader who enjoys solving complex operational challenges and turning data into action.

You'll be the person who ensures the right inventory is in the right place at the right time, that every SKU is pulling its weight on margin, and that our team runs smoothly across Vendor Central, Seller Central, and our 3PL/logistics partners. If you love turning messy, cross-functional problems into clean processes and you're equally comfortable building a forecast model and coaching direct reports, then this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities:

Forecasting & Demand Planning

  • Full ecommerce forecast accountability across all SKUs and platforms (Amazon, Walmart, Target, Tiktok, and more)
  • SKU-level demand planning strategy: in-stock, annual, promotional, and Q4 seasonal
  • Vendor-level forecast strategy across domestic, import, and dropship channels
  • Tracking forecast-to-actual performance with a regular reporting cadence
  • Communicating forecast updates, risks, and changes to inventory, marketing, logistics, and finance teams
  • Identifying and escalating demand anomalies for investigation
  • Running cadenced inventory position reviews to flag weaknesses before they become out-of-stocks

Margin Contribution & Financial Performance

  • Identifying and improving all drivers of ecommerce margin contribution
  • Owning net contribution calculations and keeping them current
  • Managing SKU-level promotional strategy to protect margin while driving velocity
  • Communicating overstock/understock risk to promo and inventory teams to minimize storage costs and aged inventory
  • SKU Strategy & Portfolio Development
  • Assessing domestic vs. import sourcing decisions by SKU
  • Reviewing bulk buy/discounted buy opportunities to support early stock-up decisions
  • Partnering with retail and merchandising teams on SKU rationalization and exclusivity strategy
  • Overseeing pre-launch viability reviews across all marketplaces

Inventory Operations & Movement

  • Overseeing inventory movement to the correct fulfillment locations
  • Leading shipment planning and scheduled inventory reviews
  • Overseeing shipment error investigation, root-cause correction, and process updates to prevent recurrence
  • Overseeing dropship and FBM order flow to ensure on-time processing and shipping
  • Managing the Amazon import program and direct-to-FBA shipping options
  • Communicating buffer stock needs to the broader inventory team
  • Monitoring vendor availability status

Platform Operations Oversight

  • Maintaining compliance with Amazon shipment requirements and proactively updating SOPs as requirements evolve
  • Overseeing Vendor Central operations: PO creation/tracking, ladder and import orders, and operational performance monitoring
  • Overseeing Seller Central operations: shipment creation/tracking and reimbursement requests
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for 3PLs, ecommerce platforms, logistics partners, and the in-stock

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly supervising Ecommerce Supply Chain Manager and Ecommerce Demand Planner — managing daily tasks, workload allocation, prioritization and accuracy
  • Conducting regular check-ins and performance reviews
  • Training specialists on operational tasks and keeping SOPs current
  • Ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all team processes
  • Supporting the professional growth and advancement of direct reports
  • Handling escalations on platform cases, carrier issues, and operational exception

Reporting, Communication & Visibility

  • Maintaining team dashboards (e.g., ClickUp, PowerBI) for visibility into out-of-stocks, planned shipments, and new product launch timing
  • Creating documentation for inventory movement and planning visibility
  • Communicating operational issues, root causes, and resolution strategies to leadership
  • Producing ad hoc reporting across platforms and functions as needed

Process & Ongoing Improvement

  • Identifying and implementing process improvements across forecasting, operations, and inventory workflows
  • Staying current on platform changes (Amazon fee structures, shipment requirements, EDI specs, chargeback rules) and driving team adaptation
  • Evaluating new shipping and fulfillment options to reduce cost or improve speed

What You Bring

Must-Haves:

  • 4+ years of experience in ecommerce operations, demand planning, inventory management, or a related supply chain role, including experience with Amazon Vendor Central and/or Seller Central
