Job description

Arconic is currently in search of a Mobile Equipment Fleet Manager to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in Lafayette, IN.

This new role will provide critical turnaround leadership and is responsible for stabilizing and rebuilding an outdated and underperforming motor vehicle fleet into a best-in-class operation. The Fleet Manager will lead a multi-year transformation focused on reliability, cost control, and operational excellence.

Summary

The Fleet Manager will lead a multi-year transformation focused on reliability, cost control, and operational excellence.   The current fleet of motor vehicles consists of ~170 assets with varying age and condition, requiring significant improvement in maintenance discipline, reliability, and lifecycle strategy.


Key Responsibilities

Fleet Strategy & Asset Management

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet management strategy, including lease vs. buy vs. dispose decision-making.

  • Optimize total cost of ownership (TCO) across all mobile equipment assets.

  • Define lifecycle standards, replacement schedules, and utilization benchmarks.

  • Maintain accurate fleet inventory, utilization metrics, and asset tracking systems.

Capital Planning & Project Management

  • Lead capital planning processes for mobile equipment, including project development, justification, and execution.

  • Build business cases including ROI, payback period, and operational impact analysis.

  • Partner with Finance and Operations to align capital investments with business priorities.

  • Manage vendor selection, procurement, and implementation of equipment acquisitions.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Leverage data, analytics, and reliability tools to drive data-informed decisions and predictive maintenance strategies

  • Oversee maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability, availability, and uptime.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.

Truck Shop Leadership

  • Lead the transformation of the truck shop into a high-performing, accountable operation, including improving technician productivity, capability, and ownership.
  • Drive cultural change toward accountability, proactive maintenance, and data-driven decision making.

Success in this role will be defined by:

  • Significant reduction in unplanned downtime
  • Improved fleet availability and reliability metrics
  • Establishment of disciplined PM/PdM programs
  • Reduction in maintenance cost per hour/unit
  • Development of a high-performing, accountable shop team
  • Execution of a multi-year fleet replacement and capital plan

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in fleet management, heavy equipment operations, maintenance, or a related industrial environment.

  • Experience managing mobile equipment lifecycle, maintenance programs, and capital planning.

  • Demonstrated leading fleet or maintenance turnarounds in underperforming environments.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a maintenance or operational environment.

  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve reliability in aging or high-cost asses bases. 

  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements. This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing large-scale fleets (100+ assets) in industrial environments such as manufacturing, mining, or construction.

  • Strong background in total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis and asset optimization.

  • Experience with CMMS or fleet management software.

  • Project management experience, including capital project execution.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification.

  • Proven ability to lead change initiatives and drive operational improvements.

  • Advanced financial acumen and ROI modeling experience.
