Job Description

SOSi is seeking an experienced Facilities Operations Manager to lead the management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our facilities in Reston, Virginia. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of building systems, facilities infrastructure, and workplace services. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, exceptional operational management skills, and a commitment to providing a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance of all facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, and life safety systems.
  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure operational reliability and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure timely resolution of facility issues and coordinate repairs with internal staff and third-party vendors.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related emergencies and coordinate response and recovery efforts.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage annual operating and maintenance budgets.
  • Monitor expenses and ensure adherence to approved budgets while maintaining service quality.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with Finance and leadership teams on long-term capital planning, facility upgrades, and renovation projects.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop facilities personnel, including maintenance technicians, custodial staff, and administrative support teams.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused work environment that promotes accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, establish development plans, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Ensure all employees receive appropriate training in safety protocols, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA requirements, building codes, fire and life safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and maintain workplace safety programs to minimize risk and promote a safe environment for employees and visitors.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, compliance documentation, and safety initiatives.

Facilities Projects & Strategic Planning

  • Lead facility improvement projects, including renovations, space planning, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Provide regular project updates and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in facilities management.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of facilities management experience, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, facility operations, maintenance practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and facilities management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facility Management Professional (FMP), or similar credentials.
  • Experience managing facility improvement projects, capital expenditures, and contractor/vendor relationships.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy management programs.

Additional Information

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with regular on-site inspections and oversight of maintenance activities.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support other company locations, attend training, or participate in industry conferences.
  • Must be available to respond to facility emergencies outside of normal business hours, as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, humidity, and noise.
