About the Role
The Customer Data Engineering Director will implement data strategies that enable Gap Inc to better manage our customer data with a goal to provide a comprehensive view of the customer, improved business decision making through quicker insights and adherence to compliance and privacy needs. This role will report into the Sr. Director of Customer Data Engineering and will be a part of the team responsible for reharmonizing, standardizing, and streamlining enterprise customer data with ownership of the business data layer working in partnership with data governance, data product management and marketing data teams.What You'll Do
  • Relevant technology professional experience in Technology, with a concentration in Customer Data Management & Marketing Technology integration
  • Strong experience in managing customer data for fashion retailers
  • Strong experience in data engineering, data platforms, data strategy consulting, or equivalent data management experience
  • Experience in operationalizing data privacy, compliance and governance initiatives
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms like Azure/GCP/AWS specializing in the related data stack within including consumption patterns like data products, data marts, universal semantic layers
  • Experience working across global teams spanning multiple time zones and geographies
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various functional partners to probe/ask questions, gather required information for analyses, and participate as a value-added cross-functional partner
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced environment driven by senior leadership requests and evolving business needs
  • Ability to manage workload with limited guidance; effective managing to expectations and ability to scope/prioritize work with relatively high independence
  • Retail Experience is a must have

  • Implements processes for active stewardship of data, including active management of metadata and oversight of data processes and flows

  • Lead the business engagement and agreement on business-wide data standards
  • Ownership of all data enrichment, maintenance investments
  • Key driver in data warehouse and business intelligence investment strategy
  • Customer data evangelist - proactively seek new and improved ways for data to drive more differentiated, dynamic, cross-channel touch point opportunities for Users
  • Internal expert on customer Data Security and Privacy policies and practices
  • Business Lead on all data-related acquisition and divestiture activities
  • Build and maintain a strong technical team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, team building, and succession planning.
