Job description

Project Manager//Estimator

Taylor Davis Co. Amherst, MA

Pay: $90,000 – $120,000/year + full benefits

What You Get

When you join us, you’re not just filling a seat — you’re taking ownership of the work that wins projects and keeps them running. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (available after 90 days)
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off
  • Off-season paid trainings and licensure programs
  • Real career development, not just talk
  • A team that takes safety and mutual respect seriously

The Role

You know how to read a set of plans, build a number, and own it. As our Project Manager (Estimating), you’ll run the full estimating process, from finding the work to bidding it to handing it off to the field. You’ll also carry projects through execution, managing schedules, budgets, subs, and documentation from preconstruction through closeout.

You’ll be the one making calls, building relationships with GCs, and putting our name on bids. If you want real responsibility at a growing civil construction company, this is it.

Day to Day

  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities through project boards and direct GC outreach
  • Own the preparation of detailed cost estimates for earthwork, grading, utilities, storm drainage, and paving
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications
  • Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes
  • Develop bid pricing, scope clarifications, and value engineering options
  • Maintain historical cost data and unit price databases
  • Set up projects — budgets, schedules, and job cost structure
  • Build and manage project schedules and look-ahead plans alongside superintendents
  • Coordinate with field supervisors, subs, suppliers, and inspectors to keep jobs moving
  • Own submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation
  • Price and process change orders
  • Lead project meetings, site walks, and progress reviews
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Manage job cost reporting, budget updates, and expense tracking
  • Drive monthly billing, pay applications, and subcontractor payment processing
  • Close out projects cleanly — final documentation, cost reviews, and lessons learned

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in site construction (earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, or similar)
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong working knowledge of construction plans and specifications
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred (not dealbreakers):

  • Experience with estimating software (Trimble ProContractor, Adobe, or similar)
  • Experience with Procore or similar project management/scheduling software
  • Knowledge of DOT, municipal, or private site development standards
  • Field experience in site work or heavy civil construction
