Role Description:
The Cloud Operations Manager will play an integral role in driving the strategy and roadmap for Cloud Operations across both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, enabling our engineering teams to move faster and ensuring production environment reliability. You will oversee operations teams in a people management capacity as a vital member of the cloud leadership team reporting to the Sr Director of Cloud Operations. You will have shared responsibility to manage incident and problem escalation processes, ensuring problems are quickly resolved.
A central focus of this role is driving the adoption of unified operational processes and automation across our multi-cloud environment. As Aderant evolves from a legacy product-based organizational model toward a unified, capability-based strategy across our legal financial application portfolio, you will be instrumental in establishing consistent operational standards that support both cloud-native application development and the modernization of legacy applications. Your work will span the full SDLC-including code deployment, infrastructure automation, platform maintenance, application troubleshooting, and architecting infrastructure solutions-ensuring that operational practices converge across cloud platforms rather than remaining siloed by product line.
You will operate with substantial latitude for action and decision-making, mentor and supervise engineers in technical competencies, and contribute to incident root cause analysis, identifying remediation and process improvements based on observed trends.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead, inspire, and grow operations teams responsible for infrastructure, security, and deployment operations across both AWS and Azure for production and non-production environments.
  • Champion the adoption of unified operational processes and automation standards across cloud platforms, reducing fragmentation between product-specific operational silos and enabling a capability-based delivery model.
  • Drive modernization initiatives for legacy applications, partnering with engineering teams to define and execute migration paths toward cloud-native architectures while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Be a mentor, coach, and player for CloudOps Engineers, enabling application development teams to build, iterate, and ship code faster, more reliably, and more frequently-regardless of the underlying cloud platform.
  • Create execution strategies and set priorities for your team, aligning operational investments with the broader organizational shift toward unified capabilities.
  • Manage multiple resources across global time zones, teams, and technologies.
  • Translate business and engineering goals to teams, ensure teams are enabled to execute, and assign work effectively.
  • Contribute to infrastructure architecture and design for building secure, highly performant, resilient, scalable, extensible, maintainable, and highly available solutions with ever-increasing automation, establishing patterns that are portable or consistent across AWS and Azure.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of cloud-based and Internet-accessible systems and services that support core business functions.
  • Own patching, scaling, backup/recovery functions (including Disaster Recovery), and troubleshooting across both cloud platforms to ensure systems are current, available, and meet business needs.
  • Ensure cloud operations comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and plan cloud infrastructure and resource costs to a defined budget across AWS and Azure, identifying consolidation and optimization opportunities as services converge.
  • Collaborate closely with application development teams to create and drive the roadmap for continually maturing deployment processes for both infrastructure and code, with an emphasis on shared tooling and repeatable patterns.
  • Understand financial controls, tagging, allocations, budgets, and governance processes. Work with application development and product support to implement financial and security governance controls that optimize costs across the multi-cloud environment.
  • Serve as the gatekeeper for material changes to infrastructure and own change management procedures and controls for production environments.
  • Oversee provisioning of critical system security by leveraging best practices for cloud security across both platforms.
  • Own application uptime commitments, including defining and deploying unified systems for metrics, logging, monitoring, and alerting that provide consistent observability regardless of cloud platform.
  • Maintain services once live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health, including incident response.
  • Direct infrastructure incident response teams and processes, ensuring regular status updates during incident response.
  • Drive operational excellence through better documentation, refined processes, and measuring results. Drive standards, patterns, and tools that help others effectively use infrastructure across the multi-cloud environment.
  • Manage operations teams responsible for multiple AWS accounts and Azure subscriptions, including network configuration, identity and access management, account/subscription security, and oversight.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in Engineering, CloudOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related field, with meaningful experience operating in multi-cloud environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, Kinesis, CloudWatch, CloudTrail) and Azure services (App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Functions, Azure Monitor, Azure DevOps, Entra ID).
  • Experience driving operational standardization and process unification across heterogeneous cloud environments or product lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead application modernization efforts, migrating legacy workloads toward cloud-native patterns.
  • Code build and deployment expertise-CI/CD principles, AWS CodeDeploy, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, PowerShell, and related tooling.
  • Infrastructure as Code proficiency-Terraform (strongly preferred for multi-cloud), CloudFormation, Bicep/ARM templates.
  • Containers and orchestration-Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Fargate, Azure Kubernetes Service.
  • Working knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, Agile, and Kanban methodologies.
  • Experience with systems automation, containerization, and orchestration across cloud platforms.
  • Direct management experience with exempt employees or skilled nonexempt employees/contractors in infrastructure, cloud, platform monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
  • Ability to analyze and understand complex technical systems built from many separate software and hardware components, specifically web application architectures spanning multiple cloud providers.
  • Excellent technical understanding of working within distributed, multi-cloud environment models with multiple applications and the constraints this places on operational consistency.
  • Solid understanding of large-scale applications, network architectures, monitoring, and fault management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Innovative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a bias toward unification and simplification.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Prior management and direction of a small team preferred.
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree is a strong plus.
  • AWS and/or Azure certifications strongly preferred.
