Job description

The Cloud Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining the foundational infrastructure and tooling that enables our teams to deliver high-quality software with speed, reliability, and security. This position is critical to our adoption of a cloud-native, software-oriented strategy, enabling the transition from traditional software development approaches to a modern, scalable platform.
The Cloud Operations Manager will take a hands-on approach in building cloud-native infrastructure while laying the groundwork for a future team. This role will also be critical in establishing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to increase development velocity and standardizing and enforcing SDLC policies.
The Cloud Operations Manager will need to demonstrate strong leadership, technical execution, and strategic planning to ensure the company is prepared to scale its future product rollouts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Hire and retain top engineering talent by implementing rigorous selection criteria, fostering an inclusive culture, and ensuring team members have clear career progression opportunities
  • Provide continuous feedback, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance technical and leadership skills within the team
  • Build a high-performance culture by fostering collaboration, recognizing achievements, and ensuring team members feel valued and motivated, with clear responsibilities and expectations that drive accountability and impact
  • Design, implement, and maintain a scalable cloud-native platform leveraging Kubernetes, AWS services, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Lead a team of professionals, providing direction, support, and motivation to achieve individual and team goals
  • Develop and enforce best practices for cloud-native development to ensure high availability, reliability, and security
  • Build and maintain observability frameworks, including logging, metrics, and distributed tracing, to provide actionable insights into system performance and health.
  • Develop alerting systems to enable proactive resolution of system issues.
  • Create and manage robust CI/CD pipelines for all software projects, enabling automated pipelines for builds, tests, and deployments.
  • Standardize deployment practices to ensure reliability, security, and speed across teams.
  • Establish and enforce SDLC policies, including standards for code quality, version control, and testing.
  • Advocate for and implement DevOps principles to foster collaboration between development and operations teams.
  • Act as a mentor and technical leader, helping development teams adopt cloud-native technologies and workflows.
  • Define the strategy for scaling the Cloud Operations team, creating foundational processes that enable efficient team growth.
  • Champion the adoption of new technologies and methodologies, driving technical and operational excellence while supporting the team in staying ahead of industry trends
  • Create and manage performance metrics to track the success and impact of the cloud operations

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • 7+ years of experience in Cloud
  • Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or DevOps roles
  • Hands-on experience with: Containers in production environments: Kubernetes, ECS, OpenShift, or Rancher, AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, EKS), Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar
  • Strong programming skills in SRE languages such as Python, Go, Ruby, or Bash scripting
  • Deep understanding of observability tools and frameworks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Proven track record of implementing and scaling modern software deployment practices in complex environments
  • Experience leading technical initiatives and setting the direction for internal platform engineering efforts
  • Must comply with and pass initial background check and drug screening, as well as subsequent background checks, drug screenings and vaccine requirements as required by customer contracts
  • Ability to follow DI's policies and procedures and system usage practices
  • Must comply with company vaccination policy
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States

Education and/or Experience
  • BS or MS degree in computer science, engineering and 7+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or DevOps roles or a related field OR 10 years of related working experience

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is predominately functioning in a sedentary light office position with high frequency of telephone communication, keyboarding, and computer.
Preferred skills and experience:
In addition to the above requirements, the ideal employee/candidate will have experience with the following:
  • 1-2 years in a management role with proven ability to select, develop and engage a high performing team
  • Experience with stakeholder influence-being able to sell the value of a cloud platform initiative to non-technical leaders
  • Proven ability to optimize cloud costs and negotiate vendor contracts
  • Ability to lead teams through internal cloud platform migrations and/or shifts in DevOps practices
  • Technical storytelling-translating complex cloud platform concepts into compelling narratives for executives and developers alike

Supervision Level
This person reports directly to the Director of Information Technology.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range: $152,500 - 196,300 (Compensation will vary based on skills and experience)
  • Bonus Eligibility: Full-time, non-sales employees are eligible for DI's annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
  • Benefits: DI offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid holidays, paid time off, and a 401(k) matching plan.
