Position Overview
We are a growing professional services accounting firm with offices north of Dallas and in Tulsa OK. We are committed to providing the best financial services to our clients and due to growth, we are eager to add a Client Accounting Services Payroll Manager to our team of public accounting professionals.ย 
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Services (CAS) Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations within our Client Accounting Services practice. The Payroll Manager will ensure accurate, timely payroll processing and tax compliance for a portfolio of clients, streamline payroll-related workflows, manage client relationships, and collaborate with accounting and AP teams. This role requires strong accounting and payroll expertise, hands-on experience with payroll software, and the ability to mentor a small team while delivering high-quality outsourced accounting services.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor payroll specialists and coordinate workloads across the CAS team to meet client deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll tax regulations, filing requirements, and sales tax impacts as they relate to payroll and benefits.
  • Configure, review, and validate payroll data in payroll software systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Gusto, Paylocity) and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll sub-ledgers to general ledger balances.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings, payments, and quarterly/year-end reporting for clients; coordinate with external tax advisors when needed.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable and accounting teams on vendor invoices, benefits payments, and payroll-related cash management.
  • Develop and maintain client-facing deliverables such as payroll summaries, financial reports, and reconciliations.
  • Implement process improvements and best practices to increase efficiency and control in outsourced payroll operations.
  • Support new client onboarding for payroll, including system setup, data conversion, and internal controls documentation.
  • Act as primary client contact for payroll questions, escalations, and ongoing advisory on payroll-related matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; advanced degree or professional credential (CPA) is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of combined accounting and payroll experience, preferably within Client Accounting Services, outsourced accounting, or public accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience with payroll systems such as Paychex, ADP, Gusto, and Paylocity; familiarity with other payroll software a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll tax rules, sales tax implications, deductions, benefits administration, and year-end processes.
  • Proven ability to prepare and review payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Experience coordinating with Accounts Payable and managing vendor invoices related to payroll and benefits.
  • Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to communicate complex payroll and accounting concepts clearly.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a team, managing priorities, and meeting firm and client deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable working in an outsourced accounting environment with multiple concurrent client engagements.
  • Prior public accounting experience or background in Client Accounting Services is highly desirable.
