Position Summary

The Accounting Manager - Client Accounting Services is responsible for overseeing accounting services for a portfolio of client accounts while managing and developing a team of accounting professionals. This role combines hands-on accounting expertise with leadership responsibilities, including reviewing financial statements, managing client relationships, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of deliverables.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in public accounting or outsourced/client accounting environments who are comfortable managing multiple clients and reviewing the work of others.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Team Leadership

Manage a portfolio of client accounts across multiple industries

Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned clients

Review accounting work prepared by staff and senior accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness

Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members

Communicate directly with clients regarding financial results, questions, and accounting matters

Coordinate internal resources to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met

Accounting Oversight & Financial Reporting

Oversee month-end and year-end close processes for client accounts

Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation

Review financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting

Ensure financial reporting is accurate and compliant with accounting standards

Identify discrepancies or issues within financial data and resolve accordingly

Process Improvement & Client Advisory

Evaluate client accounting processes and recommend improvements when appropriate

Assist with onboarding new clients and reviewing the condition of their accounting records

Identify opportunities to improve internal workflows and accounting processes

Support special projects, operational analysis, and client initiatives as needed

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

CPA designation preferred but not required

Experience

Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience

At least 2 years of experience managing or supervising accounting staff

Experience in public accounting or outsourced/client accounting environments strongly preferred

Experience reviewing the work of others and overseeing financial reporting

Technical Skills

Proficiency with QuickBooks, preferably QuickBooks Online

Strong experience with financial statement preparation and month-end close processes

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office

Experience with additional accounting systems or ERP platforms is a plus
