Job description

The Cambria Hotel in Detroit is expanding and looking for dynamic and energetic HR Specialist to join our team.

Housed in the Albert Kahn-designed Walker-Roehrig Building, the former home of WWJ radio, Cambria Hotel Detroit Downtown is a 154-room upscale hotel in the heart of downtown. The property pairs Art Deco architecture with contemporary design across guest rooms, more than 23,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, and a full slate of food and beverage outlets: Cibo, our largest restaurant; AM Buzz; the Beve lobby bar; the Cielo rooftop lounge; and Five Iron Golf. We are three blocks from Huntington Place and minutes from Ford Field, Comerica Park, and Little Caesars Arena.

Job Summary: This is primarily a high-volume, full-cycle recruiting role. You will own hiring end to end for a property that fills a significant number of positions across hotel operations, food and beverage, events, and administration, carrying multiple open requisitions at a time. Volume is seasonal: hiring surges in spring and summer as our rooftop and outdoor event spaces come online, then steadies in the winter months. Beyond recruiting, you own the candidate's first 90 days: onboarding, orientation, training delivery, and asset distribution. You will also support the Director of Human Resources on investigations and general HR administration. Recruiting and onboarding are the core of the job today. Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Write and maintain job descriptions and postings in partnership with hiring managers
  • Manage requisitions in Paycor, keeping records accurate and audit-ready
  • Post to job boards and build sourcing strategies for hard-to-fill and high-turnover roles
  • Screen resumes and conduct phone screens
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews across departments
  • Communicate duties, compensation, benefits, schedules, and working conditions accurately to candidates
  • Make hiring recommendations and refer qualified candidates to hiring managers
  • Extend verbal and written offers and manage candidates through acceptance
  • Maintain interview documentation and hiring records in compliance with federal and Michigan requirements
Onboarding and Training
  • Schedule and coordinate all pre-employment steps and start dates
  • Run new hire orientation and complete onboarding in Paycor
  • Proctor and track required training to completion
  • Issue and track company assets, uniforms, and nametags, and maintain inventory levels
  • Serve as the first point of contact for new employees on policies, benefits, and procedures
HR Support
  • Support the Director of Human Resources on workplace investigations, including scheduling, documentation, and file management
  • Process and respond to employment correspondence such as verification requests, garnishments, and support notices
  • Maintain personnel records and support general HR administration
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in full-cycle recruiting, including sourcing, screening, and offer extension
  • Comfort managing high requisition volume and competing priorities without close supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the interpersonal judgment to represent the property well to candidates
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and best practices governing hiring and recruitment
  • Proficiency with an applicant tracking system, or the ability to learn Paycor quickly
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage a full desk
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience recruiting in hospitality, restaurant, retail, or another high-volume, high-turnover environment
  • Broader HR generalist exposure, including employee relations, benefits administration, or investigations
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
  • Occasional movement throughout the property to support orientation, training, and asset distribution

Detroit Cambria provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
