Summary: 

The Banking Operations Specialist - Fintech & Payments is responsible for supporting critical banking operations across deposit operations, Treasury Management, payment processing, and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) partnerships. This position serves as an operational resource for fintech partners while ensuring accurate transaction processing, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

The role works closely with internal departments, third-party vendors, payment networks, and fintech partners to support daily banking operations, new product implementations, operational risk management, and continuous process improvement.

All employees are expected to demonstrate a commitment to exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and First Bank of the Lake's mission, values, and regulatory responsibilities.

Job Functions:

  • Perform a broad range of deposit operations activities, including account balancing and reconciliations, ACH processing, domestic and international wire transfers, debit card administration, mobile and online banking support, stop payments, file maintenance, account maintenance, recurring transfers, payment exception processing, and other daily operational functions.
  • Administer Treasury Management services, including ACH Origination, Remote Deposit Capture (RDC), merchant services, Positive Pay, and related customer setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Support Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), Private Label Banking, and fintech partner operations by assisting with partner onboarding, implementations, production support, transaction monitoring, issue resolution, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Serve as an operational liaison between internal departments, fintech partners, payment processors, and third-party vendors to ensure timely resolution of operational issues and successful implementation of new products and services.
  • Monitor and reconcile payment activity across multiple payment channels, including ACH, wire transfers, debit card services, RDC, merchant services, and other electronic payment solutions. Investigate payment exceptions, process ACH Returns and Notifications of Change (NOCs), and ensure timely settlement and reconciliation.
  • Process legal requests, retirement account administration, tax reporting, Image Replacement Documents (IRDs), accrued interest payments, dormancy and escheatment activities, death notifications, safe deposit activities, and other specialized deposit operations functions.
  • Perform operational testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), change management activities, system enhancements, product releases, and new fintech product implementations.
  • Support operational risk management by maintaining BaaS operating procedures, monitoring operational controls, participating in audits and regulatory examinations, and ensuring compliance with NACHA Rules, Regulation E, Regulation CC, BSA/AML, OFAC, and all applicable banking regulations.
  • Analyze operational trends, identify payment or process exceptions, recommend workflow improvements, and participate in automation and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
  • Maintain current knowledge of banking regulations, payment systems, fintech products, and operational best practices.
  • Complete all required regulatory and Bank training, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Information Security, and other required compliance training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of banking operations or deposit operations experience preferred.
  • Previous Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) embedded banking, sponsor bank, fintech operations, or private-label banking experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Treasury Management products, ACH Origination, Remote Deposit Capture, merchant services, wire transfers, and payment operations.
  • Working knowledge of NACHA rules, Regulation E, BSA/AML, OFAC and other applicable banking regulations.
  • Experience supporting fintech implementations, operational testing, or product launches preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience operating a computer (including MS product suite), calculator, and other general office equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Work Arrangement:

  • This position is remote.
  • Occasional travel may be required for in-person training or meetings.
