JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:
The General Manager - Asphalt Paving Division leads all asphalt milling and paving operations across FMCC's DC, VA, and MD job sites. This is a hands-on executive role responsible for crew leadership, production, safety, equipment, material procurement, and division P&L.
Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Lead multiple asphalt paving and milling crews through Superintendents and Foremen across simultaneous projects in DC, VA, and MD.
โ€ข Oversee all aspects of paving operations - milling, laydown, compaction, smoothness, and quality control - to meet DDOT, VDOT, and MDSHA specifications.
โ€ข Manage production schedules, material delivery, trucking logistics, and plant coordination to maintain uninterrupted paving operations.
โ€ข Own division P&L - monitor labor, equipment, and material costs; analyze job costing data and drive profitability.
โ€ข Select, deploy, and oversee asphalt paving equipment including pavers, rollers, milling machines, and MTVs.
โ€ข Negotiate asphalt material and aggregate purchasing to control costs and ensure production continuity.
โ€ข Champion safety compliance with OSHA, DDOT, VDOT, MDSHA, and company policies on every job site.
โ€ข Recruit, develop, and lead high-performing Superintendents, Foremen, and crews.
โ€ข Work hours vary - night paving, early mornings, and weekends are a regular part of this market.
Job Requirements:
โ€ข Minimum of 10 years specifically in asphalt milling and paving - this is a firm required,
โ€ข Minimum 5 years managing multiple asphalt paving crews, Superintendents, and Foremen on large-scale projects.
โ€ข Proven knowledge of asphalt paving equipment (Vogele, BOMAG, CAT pavers, steel and rubber drum rollers, milling machines).
โ€ข Working knowledge of DDOT, VDOT, and MDSHA paving specifications and inspection requirements.
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to manage division-level budgets, labor costs, and P&L.
โ€ข Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
โ€ข Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
โ€ข Valid driver's license required.
โ€ข Must pass a background check and drug & alcohol screening.
Working Conditions:
โ€ข This position operates in a combination of office, asphalt plant, and active construction job site environments,
โ€ข Frequent travel to local and regional job sites is required to monitor operations, production, and safety compliance,
โ€ข Regular exposure to outdoor conditions, including Extreme heat (especially around asphalt operations), Cold weather, rain, and varying site conditions,
โ€ข Exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, dust, and asphalt materials; use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times in the field.
