Position Summary
Concordia University seeks an hourly Anatomy Laboratory Assistant to provide support to various graduate health programs. This position requires training and experience with human cadaver dissection. The position reports to the Anatomy Faculty, under the direction of Program Directors and the Assistant Dean of the School of Health Professions. The position supports academic programs located on the Ann Arbor campus of Concordia University.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Anatomy Laboratory Assistant will work under the direction and in collaboration with the Anatomy Faculty to support instruction of anatomy content at the graduate level using models, specimens, and cadavers. Duties include:
  • Set up laboratory specimens, equipment, and models for scheduled laboratory sessions, practical exams, and events
  • Attend and supervise scheduled lab usage under the direction of the Anatomy Faculty
  • Orient students to and reinforce laboratory guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstration of models, human or animal specimens, and dissection procedures during lab, events, and other activities
  • Contribute to laboratory exercises in conjunction with the course syllabus and lectures
  • Support preparation of instructional materials or digital content (e.g., labeling images or creating reference guides)
  • Conduct open lab hours according to the syllabus and/or Anatomy Faculty
  • Track student attendance in scheduled and open labs โ€ข Proctor laboratory practical exams and clean up afterwards
  • Grade lab exams and lab assessments
  • Remediate lab assessments with students under the direction of Anatomy Faculty or Program Director
  • Provide all student records to Anatomy Faculty upon completion of assignment
  • Monitor lab safety and report any concerns or incidents to faculty
  • Help facilitate feedback collection from students regarding lab experiences
  • Assign student lockers to students currently enrolled in anatomy courses
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked lab
  • Clean and disinfect all dissection tools, tables, floors, and other lab spaces/surfaces โ€ข Organization of the laboratory and equipment functionality
  • Assist with return and receipt of donor cadavers
  • Complete a thorough cleaning of laboratory and all body preservation tanks after return of donors
  • Assist in inventory management and ordering of lab supplies and PPE
  • Ensure all communication related to lab concerns are routed through Anatomy Faculty
  • Track and maintain compliance with assigned number of hours per course
  • Other duties may be assigned in accordance with curricular objectives and learning outcomes

Education and Qualifications
The minimum amount of education and experience that an individual needs in order to successfully perform the essential duties of the position is as follows:
  • Required - Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college in a life science field; Preferred - Master's degree
  • Applicant must have completed 2 semesters of Anatomy and/or Physiology or equivalent science courses
  • Experience in human body dissection, teaching in an academic laboratory setting, knowledge of medical terminology or clinical anatomy
  • Active involvement in a Christian Church
