Position Overview
Kaleidoscope Supply Services supports the staffing of this position on behalf of a client company. If selected, you will be employed directly by the clientnot Kaleidoscope, the VA, or the federal government.
This role supports a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) federal contract. You will work alongside VA teams to help deliver services that support veterans and the VAs mission.
About the Role
We are seeking a detail oriented and proactive Interior Design Assistant to join our team in Long Beach. In this role, you will support our Lead and VA Interior Designers, helping execute design and activation tasks within the Interior Design Section. You will assist the contracted Interior Designer and VA Interior Designer, supporting activities ranging from procurement documentation through final transition and move in phases. This role blends design support and coordination, with an emphasis on accuracy, organization, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage meeting notes, design collateral, and project correspondence.
  • Maintain and organize the physical and digital resource libraries (samples, catalogs, and vendor contacts).
  • Assist with developing procurement packages and track activation orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support project timelines and installations.
  • Support the preparation of design services (e.g., mood boards, floor plans, and material selections).
  • Support installation phases and assist in the development of punch lists.
  • Assist in the transition and move-in phases, ensuring furniture and decor are placed accurately, and the space is ready for occupancy.
  • Coordinate with remote or virtual design team members to help align design deliverables with site-specific requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
  • Previous experience in interior design or architectural support or assistant level role. Foundational familiarity with healthcare or largescale project environments preferred.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; exposure to Revit or SketchUp is beneficial but not required.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple "moving parts" and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly during installation, punch list, and activation phases.
Contract Details
  • This position supports a federal nonpersonal services contract with the VA.
  • The anticipated contract term includes one base year with up to two optional renewal years, subject to funding, performance, and government needs.
  • As part of the federal approval process, the VA may review resumes and may request interviews.

Compensation
  • Hourly pay: you are paid only for hours worked.
  • No paid holidays (holiday pay is not reimbursed by the government for this role).
  • No paid time off (PTO) is included.
  • Overtime is not permitted unless pre-approved by both the client and the VA.
This compensation structure is standard for federal nonpersonal services contract positions.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance are not included
  • Retirement plans are not included
  • No employer sponsored benefits are offered for this position
