Summary:
The mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. IDOC is currently recruiting for a full-time Management Assistant at the Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC). The Management Assistant plays a key role in keeping the ISCC leadership team running smoothly and effectively. This position provides essential administrative support, helps interpret and apply policies, and serves as a resource for resolving complex facility-wide issues. The incumbent will also handle sensitive and occasionally challenging inquiries from staff, offenders, and their families with professionalism and care. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to supporting both operational excellence and positive communication across the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of administrative duties to enable the ISCC leadership team to function smoothly and effectively.
- Perform detailed secretarial or clerical support functions.
- Interpret, apply, and implement policies and procedures.
- Resolve complex problems or issues concerning the facility.
- Respond to sensitive or controversial issues from staff, offenders, and families of offenders.
- Supervise additional members of the administrative team.
Minimum Qualifications: Your resume needs to clearly articulate how your skills, education and experience meet qualifications below-
- Experience interpreting and applying regulations or policies and procedures. Typically gained from at least one year of work experience interpreting and explaining complex information such as policies, procedures, regulations, or laws including explaining discrepancies or having to explain to others how the information applied to their specific situations.
- Experience planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating special projects. Typically gained by work or volunteer experience with responsibility for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating at least one special project that involved extensive planning and action.
- Experience independently researching, compiling, developing, and summarizing material for reports on a frequent or recurring basis. Typically gained by one year of work, college, or volunteer experience that required independently researching, compiling, developing, and summarizing materials for reports.
- Experience analyzing information, identifying problems, defining alternatives, and developing recommendations for management/administrators. Typically gained by one year of work experience where you were required to analyze information, identify problems, define alternatives, and develop recommendations for managers. Management problems could have dealt with issues such as resolving staffing, overtime, budget, and/or contract problems, etc., where you determined the problem, researched files, reviewed reports, and analyzed different options.
- Experience interpreting, applying, and communicating with victims, families and residents explaining policies and procedures to specific situations.
- Good knowledge of computer applications. Typically gained through successful completion of computer applications courses of 20 or more hours and at least one year of applied work experience or approximately two years of experience using three or more commonly used computer applications in a job setting.
Specialty Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of supervisory practices. This is typically gained by completion of a training class or seminar (8 or more hours, e.g. Pre-Supervisor) specifically covering supervisory practices AND at least 6 months of full-time work experience that involved work assignment, direction and monitoring of staff, OR at least 1 year of lead-work or supervisory experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff. Supervision of incarcerated individuals does NOT qualify.
- Willing to work in a correctional center.
