General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Case Management Assistant to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center!
The Case Management Assistant (CMA), under general supervision, provides clerical and administrative support to the Case Management Department. The job duties are performed in a department or area where services are not related to providing direct patient care. Under the direction of the Director of Patient Care Transitions, performs multiple activities that support the movement and transitions of patients out of the inpatient hospital setting. Assists in the administration of Case Management functions to include, but not limited to follow-up with third party payers for the appeal status, assists with arranging the patient transportation, delivers Medicare Important Message letters, and other duties to assist the Case Management team. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with sensitive patient information. The CMA will assist Director of Patient Care Transitions with clinical, financial, and other reports pertaining to quality patient care.

Primary Duties:
  • Performs clerical/administrative tasks to support the patient-focused, efficient functioning of the department. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

  • Follow-up with payors on pending appeal letters. Assist CMs with submitting necessary paperwork to CBO such as CCRF, Denial, Appeal letters. Faxing referral information to facilities. Assist with arranging transportation for patients to facilitate timely. Assist with Medicare Important Message letters delivery. Answer the telephonic patient inquiries when regular administrative assistant is off

  • Assist CM team with admit status changes and communicating level of care and other changes with admission staff. Assists with arranging medications from MedStar Montgomery Medical Center's outpatient pharmacy as directed by case manager. Customer Service: Proactively aids patients, families, and staff; and provides responses to queries. Greets and receives patients in a professional courteous manner. Answers, screens, and responds to all telephone calls. Provides accurate information and referral services.

  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Maintains knowledge of current best practices and industry standards in security, telecommunications, and first impressions. Identifies learning needs and participates in training and development activities. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements within allotted timeframe for completion.

  • Works effectively within and between departments.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 1 year of healthcare experience preferred.

  • Associate's degree preferred.
