American House Senior Living is seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Wellness Director (LPN or RN) to lead our Wellness Department at American House Cottage in Grosse Pointe. In this highly visible leadership role, you’ll guide and develop our Wellness team, oversee resident care and medication-management practices, and build trusted relationships with residents and their families.

What You’ll DoLead and Support the Wellness Team
  • Supervise, educate, direct, and support all Wellness team members.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and retain qualified employees.
  • Assign and direct work, provide regular feedback, evaluate performance, recognize achievements, and address performance concerns.
  • Promote positive employee relations through appreciation, recognition, coaching, and retention initiatives.
  • Monitor required licenses and certifications for Wellness employees.
  • Serve as manager on duty in the Executive Director’s absence.
Coordinate Resident Care
  • Oversee the implementation, delivery, and coordination of resident services.
  • Assess prospective residents to determine the appropriate Assisted Living or Memory Care level of care.
  • Complete assessments in the community, a prospective resident’s home, or another healthcare setting as needed.
  • Coordinate resident and family care conferences with the Executive Director.
  • Serve as a trusted liaison among residents, families, employees, and healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate services with third-party healthcare providers to support continuity of care.
  • Participate in tours and speak with prospective residents and families about wellness services and clinical needs.
Maintain Quality and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations, company policies, and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Oversee medication-management practices and the accuracy, timeliness, and completion of medication records.
  • Provide supervision, delegation, training, and ongoing competency checks for Medication Aide programs where applicable.
  • Ensure incident reports are completed, filed, investigated, and followed up on appropriately.
  • Investigate complaints, grievances, and incidents in partnership with the Executive Director.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, fire protection, infection-control, blood-borne pathogen, hazardous-waste, and quality-assurance requirements.
  • Protect the confidentiality of resident, employee, and organizational information.
Partner with Community Leadership
  • Provide written and verbal updates to the Executive Director and Regional Wellness Director.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director regarding department budgets, equipment, staffing, and supply needs.
  • Support community occupancy goals by assisting with prospective-resident evaluations, tours, and family conversations.
What You’ll BringRequired Qualifications
  • Current, active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • At least three years of management experience in a healthcare, senior living, or service-related environment.
  • Knowledge of the physiological and psychological needs of older adults.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable transportation for occasional off-site resident assessments.
  • Ability to provide rotating or as-needed 24/7 on-call clinical support.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screening, TB test, and physical.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in assisted living, memory care, or senior living.
  • Experience supporting older adults and individuals living with dementia or memory loss.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, stretch, pull, push, and lift items.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living when needed, including bathing, dressing, dining, and exercise.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with residents, families, employees, and healthcare partners.
  • Perform duties requiring close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
