Maintenance Mechanic / Field Service Technician

About Us


Skyline Maintenance & Repair is a premier Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) emergency service company based in Chicago, Illinois. We specialize in servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modernizing suspended access systems used on high-rise buildings throughout the Chicagoland area.


Our work involves highly specialized equipment ranging from legacy systems over 60 years old to newly engineered modern BMUs. Every machine is custom-built to the structure it serves, making this an exciting opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals who enjoy problem-solving and hands-on work.



Position Overview


We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and mechanically skilled Maintenance Mechanic / Field Service Technician. This position involves diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on high-rise suspended access equipment.


This is a hands-on field position requiring strong troubleshooting skills, comfort working at heights, and the ability to think independently in challenging environments.


No two days are the same in this industry.



Responsibilities


  • Troubleshoot and repair BMU equipment and suspended access systems
  • Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical failures
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and emergency service calls
  • Repair motors, gearboxes, traction hoists, and hydraulic power units
  • Assist with equipment modernization and installations
  • Perform MIG and stick welding and basic fabrication 
  • Complete daily service reports and documentation
  • Safely perform rooftop work, structural climbing, and rigging operations
  • Operate shop equipment and maintain tools/service vehicles
  • Work independently and with a team in fast-paced environments



Preferred Qualifications


  • Mechanical troubleshooting experience
  • Electrical troubleshooting knowledge
  • Experience with PLCs and VFDs preferred
  • Hydraulic repair experience preferred
  • Welding and fabrication skills a plus
  • Ability to read schematics and diagrams
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
