Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Western Metals Recycling is seeking a Maintenance Helper on the Second Shift. The Maintenance Helper must support the maintenance team by preparing industrial equipment for heavy maintenance and by preparing the site for operation during the next shift. Preparation includes physical labor such as clearing debris with a shovel or mobile equipment, gathering tools for a worksite, operating a large impact wrench, and installing conveyor belt rollers. The successful helper will be proactive in spotting maintenance issues, work overtime as needed, and becomes trained in forklift or skid steer operation. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to work 2nd shift - Hours from 4:00PM - 4:00AM
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including scheduled and unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts, and off shifts.
  • Must be willing to learn how to operate a forklift, skid steer, and aerial lift
  • Able to perform basic physical labor and maintenance
  • Safety - exhibits an understanding of Nucor's safety culture, implement effective controls, and value self and others' ability to get things done expeditiously & SAFELY while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Communication Skills - The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.
  • Teamwork - Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Accountability & Dependability - Displays responsibility, reliability, is committed to fulfilling work obligations and can hold others accountable for desired results.
  • Problem Solving & Judgment/Decision Making- Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options in order to choose the most appropriate solution.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual preferred - Spanish. 
  • Strong mechanical abilities (welding, fabrication, knowledge of tools, etc.) a plus.
