Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Dev & Deployment Tools Engineer to design, implement, and support development toolchains and deployment frameworks within IBM z/OS environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with COBOL, Assembler, REXX, JCL, and mainframe Software Configuration Management (SCM) and deployment tools such as Endevor, ChangeMan, or ISPW. The candidate will help enable DevOps practices, automate build and deployment processes, and ensure reliable application promotion across development, QA, UAT, and production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Mainframe Development Toolchain & DevOps

  • Design and maintain development toolchains supporting COBOL, PL/I, JCL, Assembler, and related mainframe technologies.
  • Support source control integration and versioning strategies.
  • Manage artifact and package management processes.
  • Promote DevOps best practices within mainframe development environments.

Build & Deployment Automation

  • Develop and maintain automated mainframe build and deployment processes.
  • Automate code compilation, packaging, deployment, and promotion.
  • Build reliable release management processes to reduce manual effort and deployment errors.
  • Support automated promotion across DEV → QA → UAT → PROD environments.

Deployment Tools & SCM

  • Administer and support enterprise deployment tools such as:
    • Endevor
    • ChangeMan
    • ISPW
  • Manage package lifecycles including build, test, deploy, rollback, and promotion.
  • Maintain deployment standards and ensure proper source-code and package versioning.

Environment Management

  • Support development, test, and production mainframe environments.
  • Ensure consistency and integrity across environments.
  • Coordinate deployments with application development, QA, release management, and operations teams.
  • Troubleshoot deployment and environment-related issues.

Automation & Integration

  • Develop automation using REXX, CLIST, JCL, and scripting tools.
  • Integrate mainframe deployment processes with enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
  • Support integration with distributed DevOps tools such as Git and Jenkins.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive build, deployment, and release activities.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of Mainframe experience.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Mainframe Dev & Deployment, SCM, or Release Engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience in IBM z/OS environments.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of:
    • Endevor
    • ChangeMan
    • ISPW
  • Strong knowledge of COBOL and Assembler.
  • Very strong REXX knowledge and hands-on experience.
  • Strong JCL experience.
  • Experience with TSO/ISPF and SDSF.
  • Strong understanding of Mainframe SDLC, build, release, and promotion processes.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated deployment processes.
  • Ability to build and maintain custom applications written in Assembler.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps concepts and their application to Mainframe environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DB2, IMS, and CICS.
  • Experience with Jenkins and Git integration.
  • Experience with Python or other automation frameworks.
  • Exposure to Mainframe modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale DevOps transformation.
  • Experience automating build and release pipelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
