Job description

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Provide a wide range of clerical, communication and customer relation services including census documentation, general reception and telephone management. Provide general clerical support for the unit under the direction of the Director/Assistant Director/RN.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide general reception and support functions for assigned unit, including directing phone calls, patient call lights, greeting visitors and patients, distributing mail, and coordinating information flow in order to enhance an effective unit communication process

  • Perform the necessary clerical and communication functions to support the admit, transfer and/or discharge process

  • Data entry, file, printing, duplicate and distribute various forms, letters, reports, data, and other such information as required

  • Prepare and report census, transportation, and statistical data

  • Monitor and maintain adequate unit supply levels, initiating supply and equipment requisitions according to procedure

  • Assist with remaining paper medical records through provision and filing of forms

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent
  • One (1) year clerical experience or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Ability to work with confidential data
  • Ability to alphabetically file records
  • Demonstrate good judgment, discretion, tact, and ability to set priorities
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate ability to interact with others
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures
