Communications Manager � Copywriting
Marketing Department | Exempt
Shape the Words That Carry Hope to the World
Lakewood Church is seeking an accomplished, bilingual copywriting leader to oversee written communications for Lakewood Church and Joel Osteen Ministries.
This role is centered on copywriting, editing, brand voice, and content strategy. The Communications Manager will lead a team of copywriters responsible for creating compelling, on-brand copy across digital, print, email, direct mail, social media, websites, video scripts, congregation communications, and other marketing channels.
Working directly with the Associate Director of Marketing, this position ensures consistency in voice and tone, upholds high editorial standards, and develops messaging strategies aligned with marketing and business goals.

Work Schedule
  • Standard 40-hour work week
  • Monday through Thursday in the office

What You'll Do
Working directly with the Associate Director of Marketing, you'll lead copy development, editorial quality, messaging strategy, and audience communications across Lakewood Church and Joel Osteen Ministries.
Copywriting & Editorial Leadership
  • Oversee written content for campaigns, websites, social media, email, print materials, direct mail, video scripts, and other marketing channels.
  • Review and edit copy to ensure quality, clarity, accuracy, strategic alignment, and consistency with established brand standards.
  • Maintain consistency in voice, tone, grammar, messaging, and editorial quality.
  • Translate complex ideas into accessible, engaging content tailored to different audiences.
  • Ensure written communications support the intended audience, campaign strategy, and organizational objective.
  • Stay informed about content best practices, industry trends, and emerging communication channels.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of copywriters.
  • Provide feedback, training, constructive critique, and support for employee growth and development.
  • Set management objectives that align with overall marketing goals.
  • Manage writing assignments, project workflows, timelines, and competing priorities.
  • Guide the team toward established goals while maintaining strong standards for writing and editorial quality.

Content & Messaging Strategy
  • Collaborate with creative, design, digital, and marketing teams to develop messaging strategies and content plans.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate them into effective audience-focused communications.
  • Oversee retention communication strategies designed to nurture new contacts and deepen relationships with existing audiences.
  • Work alongside vendors, managers, and internal partners to coordinate communication initiatives.
  • Participate in broader marketing meetings and strategy sessions involving direct mail, email, and the call center.

Direct Mail
  • Manage the Joel Osteen Ministries and Lakewood Church direct-mail lifecycle from campaign inception through thank-you and gift acknowledgments.
  • Work closely with the Church's direct-mail agency throughout campaign planning and execution.
  • Provide quality assurance for direct-mail materials moving into production.
  • Coordinate necessary approvals throughout the creative routing process, including final approval of artwork, formats, mock-ups, and proofs.
  • Work with the direct-mail agency to review past campaign performance and help determine effective future strategies under the direction of the Director of Marketing.

Congregation Communications
  • Manage marketing communications for church bulletins, collateral, emails, the call center, signature events, and other congregation-facing communication needs.
  • Ensure congregation communications are clear, accurate, audience-appropriate, and aligned with Lakewood Church's voice and mission.

The Communications Manager will also perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years of third-party management experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in a leadership or management role
  • Minimum three years of professional writing experience preferred
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating a range of digital, print, long-form, and short-form content is preferred
