Function / Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to support the warehouse operation. This role is responsible for the accurate and efficient movement, storage, and processing of goods within the warehouse. This role also ensures the timely receiving, handling, stocking, and processing of products while maintaining inventory accuracy and adhering to safety and quality standards. The Material Handler works collaboratively with team members to support daily operations, contribute to a clean and organized workspace, and ensure that materials are processed and operational demands are met in an efficient manner.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment.
  • Support the distribution and collection of interoffice and outgoing mail by ensuring timely, accurate, and secure handling of correspondence and packages.
  • Inspect and operate equipment safely, promptly reporting malfunctions and safety hazards.
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory as needed.
  • Initiate requests and submit orders for supplies, materials, parts and tools following District purchasing procedures including obtaining quotes as needed from approved vendors.
  • Support the processing of building returns by identifying reusable items and ensuring the proper disposal of non-reusable materials in accordance with Board policy.
  • Accurately pick warehouse stock items for fulfillment of work orders and other building requests.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, appropriate sanitation practices, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Load and unload district vehicles and receive deliveries from freight carriers, ensuring accurate handling and safe transfer of materials.
  • Receive and process incoming freight by verifying contents against packing slips, promptly documenting irregularities or damage, and aiding in the reconciliation of purchase orders.
  • Efficiently use current software that supports the daily operation of the Distribution Center.
  • Assist other team members and departments as needed to meet operational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required prior to start date.
  • Holds or obtains a current certificate of forklift operation within three (3) months of hire.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.

Experience / Knowledge
  • Two years of prior warehouse or material handling experience (preferred).
  • Two years of experience operating lift trucks, pallet jacks, and other common Distribution Center equipment
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety procedures, equipment manuals, and other job-related materials; communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public; and accurately complete required documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with adults, students and community members.
  • Basic computer knowledge. Proficient in Microsoft Office, work order management, and computerized maintenance management systems.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs. with proper technique.
  • Ability to work safely from stepladder, aerial lifts, and/or scaffolding at varying heights, up to 40 ft.
  • Ability to push/pull 100 pounds with proper technique.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather for prolonged periods.
  • Public contact requiring District approved uniform.

Terms of Employment
  • This is a 12-month ESSO position
  • Salary and benefits are as established by the agreement between ESSO and the Board of Education.
  • Flexibility in work days/hours and overtime may be necessary.
  • Travel between buildings may be required.
  • Starting rate is $18.68 per union agreement.
