Job description

Gift Shop Representative

The Gift Shop Representative assists with displaying and selling of merchandise. Responsible for operating cash register to compute sales. Provides general retail support and customer service. May handle low scale product buying. Responsible for daily stocking of merchandise. Assists in daily operations of Gift Shop to maintain regular business hours. Assists Gift Shop Lead with back-office procedures (i.e. POS item entry, purchase orders, merchandise receiving, back-office staging). Practices the Serve-U philosophy.

The Gift Shop Representative

  • Practices good salesmanship to up sell products while modeling SERVE-U behavior.
  • Provides assistance with daily operations including staffing shop in the absence of volunteers.
  • Assists with training new staff and volunteers. Instructs volunteers on sales and customers service skills. Maintains communication notebook as information tool for volunteers and staff.
  • Coordinates with Gift Shop Lead for data entry on Point of Sale system (POS) including assisting with data organization, item entry, and merchandise receiving.
  • Coordinates with staff members to develop and oversee timely store displays, as well as product marketing and timely (e.g. within 48 hours of receipt) merchandise delivery to the sales floor. Assists with aisle maintenance: check-in and marking merchandise as needed, sorting cards and magazines, stocking shelves, routine dusting, transporting, lifting & unpacking boxes, and inventory. Assists volunteers with shop operations during work hours.
  • Verifies cash drawer amount received at start of shift; reconciles drawer money at end of shift, accurately records credit card transactions, and reports and post-voids transactions. Cashes out at end of shift to ensure register drawer balances with tape amount.
  • Performs payroll deduct transactions.
  • Provides quick, accurate and complete transactions. Counts and balances daily sales receipt. Processes credit card transactions. Responsible for cash in own register. Accept monies and returns correct change.

What We Require:

Education: High school diploma or GED required. Experience: Minimum two (2) years retail & customer service experience required. Other Minimum Qualifications: High level of customer service and a positive sales approach required. Must possess flexibility in work schedule and be dependable, particularly during seasonal sales periods. Should possess high level of organizational skills and be able to multitask. Creative skills important for shop displays and overall shop look. Ability to work in fast-paced, stressful retail environment important. Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required. Data entry skills required.
