MANUAL MACHINIST
Pell City, Alabama
Shift: 2nd shift
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Manual Machinist to operate various Milling Machines, Drill Presses and Lathes. Position reports to the Operations Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, vertical boring mill, horizontal boring mill.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS
Requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, welding machines, heavy duty magnets and manual/remote controlled devices using radio signals. Physical conditions for positions: Sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, grasp, ascend/descend stairs and ladders, maneuver within tight spaces, routinely lift up to 50 lbs. Must have visual acuity, excellent mobility, good hearing, manual dexterity, good balance, ability to endure long hours, excellent problem solving skills, and wear required personal protective equipment. All tasks performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
