Job description

ISSI Engineering & Machining, a machine shop and engineering firm on the southwest side of Indianapolis, is looking for a Director of Machine Shop Operations to join our team.


This is a unique opportunity to lead a team of skilled machinists to produce high-quality parts for a wide range of customers. As Director of Machine Shop Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our machine shop operations, from routing jobs through the shop, to interacting with customers, to managing production schedules, and many other tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and direction to the machine shop team.
  2. Manage the shop workflow, job preparation, external processes, final inspection and shipping using JobBOSS ERP.
  3. Supervise, manage, and help train 11+ machinists performing CNC and manual machining work.
  4. Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  5. Ensure production schedules are met and that resources are allocated effectively.
  6. Monitor and optimize the use of machinery and equipment.
  7. Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure work output meets specifications.
  8. Implement and enforce safety training programs for machine shop personnel.
  9. Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  10. Implement new technologies or process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.


Job Requirements:

  1. Practical knowledge of manual and CNC machines.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in a machine shop supervisory or leadership role
  3. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
