Job description

Machine Shop Supervisor

Elgin, Illinois, United States

The Supervisor will oversee day-to-day operations of the machine shop and develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, machining processes, tooling, and machine capabilities. This position is responsible for coordinating production times and staffing requirements to ensure on-time delivery for shop operations. The Supervisor will mentor, coach, and train team members on best practices, machine operations, and overall operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine shop team to work efficiently, utilize best practices and machine operations to meet production deadlines.
  • Oversee team production to ensure best utilization of resources and machine scheduling and quality output.
  • Set up and operate CNC milling and lathe machines.
  • Work closely with Process Supervisor to manage machine output and programming.
  • Communicate closely with engineering team to develop best practices for manufacturability of parts.
  • Enforce and follow workplace safety standards.
  • Assist team members in other areas if needed to meet daily production goals.
  • Assist in problem-solving and continuous improvement in the machine shop.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Associates degree in CNC machining preferred.
  • 3+ years of CNC Programming ideally in FeatureCam.
  • Knowledge of setting up and operating CNC machinery including both mills and lathes.
  • Deep understanding of Fanuc machine controls.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
