What Is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Service Manager, the Shop Foreperson is a hands-on leadership role responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics and repairs while coordinating the daily activities of licensed Heavy-Duty Technicians, Apprentices and support staff at the shop in Redcliff, Alberta. The role balances productive shop work with supervision, workflow planning, quality control, safety leadership and administrative responsibilities to support safe, reliable and cost-effective operations.

What You'll Do here:

• Work directly on heavy equipment by completing diagnostics, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repairs as operational priorities require.
• Provide accurate repair scopes, labour requirements and parts needs, and communicate repair status and technical findings to the Service Manage and Operations personnel as needed.
• Lead by example: As a productive member of the shop team while providing day-to-day directions, coaching, and technical assistance to other technicians and apprentices.
• Supervise and coordinate daily shop activities, assigning work based on priority, technician skill set, equipment availability and operational requirements.
• Inspect completed work to confirm repairs meet safety, quality, and manufacturer requirements before equipment is returned to service.
• Support technicians with complex troubleshooting and escalate significant technical, cost or scheduling concerns to the Service Manager.
• Review and approve technician timesheets and work requisitions in accordance with established processes.
• Complete daily service reports and oversee the submissions by other technicians.
• Conduct/complete safety observations, safety opportunities and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs).
• Monitor ongoing repairs and maintain current repair-status tracking for the Service Manager and Operations.
• Collaborate with Service Manager and Equipment Admin to dispatch technicians for field repairs, providing clear jobsite, equipment and contact information for each assignment.
• Coordinate off-site subcontractors and third-party mechanics for repairs, inspections and safety certifications as required.
• Ensure employees and contractors comply with company policies, safe work procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe shop, including appropriate housekeeping, tool control and storage practices.
• Train and mentor apprentices and junior technicians, reinforcing safe work practices, technical standards and accountability.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of all types of vehicles/equipment within the road construction fleet, such as excavators, backhoes, paving equipment, trailers and various sizes and configurations of trucks.
• Minimum 10 years related construction tools and equipment maintenance experience.
• Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a Shop Foreperson role.
• Experience with SAP an asset.
• Strong communication skills - oral & written.
• Ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Adaptable to work a flexible work schedule when required.
• Ability to work on-call rotation as required.
• Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Certification.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license.
