What you will be doing:
  • Assemble sub-systems and cubic engine components using various tools, gauges, devices, Loctite, liquid nitrogen, lubricants, and specialized equipment.
  • Operate CNC HELLER machining centers with Siemens 840D controllers according to instructions, routings, control plans, production requirements, and diagrams.
  • Read, study, and interpret blueprints, machining/assembly instructions, specifications manuals, job orders, routings, and control plans to determine sequences of operations, setups, and requirements.
  • Compile workpieces, components, and materials per specifications; inspect, document, and report defects.
  • Select appropriate materials and tooling required for machining and assembly of cubic engine components.
  • Position and align components for assembly into larger mounting elements and verify part clearances.
  • Perform leak testing and functional testing of parts and assemblies using multiple processes and technologies.
  • Measure and verify dimensions and conformance of parts and finished products using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, templates, fixtures) in accordance with quality control plans.
  • Test assemblies and larger mounting elements for quality assurance, record results, and verify conformance to MTU America specifications.
  • Perform fine-tuning, optimization, and monitoring of machining processes, including sample cuts, CNC program optimization, tool durability, vibration detection, and collision prevention.
  • Observe machine operation, adjust processes as needed, and stop machines to remove workpieces or change tooling, setups, or placements.
  • Maintain industrial equipment within Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) specifications using knowledge of mechanics, materials, mathematics, and machining procedures.
  • Rework, repair, or replace damaged parts or assemblies; report unresolved disruptions such as tolerance deviations, breakdowns, wrong parts, or leaks to appropriate groups.
  • Inspect, operate, and test completed products to verify functionality, machine capability, and specification compliance.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and maintain clean, organized, and orderly work areas.
  • Identify and reduce non-value-added work and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform special projects as required and provide flexible support in other production-related areas.
  • Promote a compliance culture and uphold the letter and spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct.

Position requirements:
  • 2 years in a mechanical, maintenance or machining trade school or equivalent Associate's Degree; or 5 years of experience in a heavy-duty machining environment
  • Shift: Working Shift - Off Shift - Monday -Thursday 7:30pm to 6:00 am, Training will take place on the same shift as the working shift.
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Intermediate knowledge of CNC-controls (preferred SIEMENS 840 D Controllers) machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Intermediate ability to interpret Statistical Process Control (SPC) and operate scanning devices for system communications
  • Intermediate knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods (Quality Alerts, Second Checks, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and the ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations or standards
  • Intermediate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills where problems are complex
  • Intermediate interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with other employees
  • Intermediate ability to interpret blueprints, build documents, schematic drawings, layouts or other documents regarding engine assembly and testing
  • Intermediate organizational, planning and follow-up skills and the ability to cope with stress
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate reading, writing and math skills
  • Basic PC knowledge and the ability to efficiently operate computer terminals, tools and devices
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
  • Experience as a CNC milling operator and with SIEMANS 840D Control System Knowledge of MTU products, policies and procedures
  • Ability to obtain appropriate hoists and power vehicle licenses (Flatbed, Hi-Lo, & Mule) when necessary
