Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates metal-cutting saws and handles materials in a warehouse environment to produce sheet metal parts according to work tickets and prepare finished products for shipment. You complete safety training and shadow experienced team members during your first week, then work autonomously once fully trained. You run two saw machines simultaneously to maintain efficiency and support daily production goals while following all safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate metal-cutting saw machines to cut sheet metal to precise sizes based on work tickets and production requirements.
  • Run two saw machines simultaneously, monitoring performance and making adjustments to maintain efficiency and product quality throughout the shift.
  • Read and follow work instructions and job tickets accurately to ensure correct materials, dimensions, and quantities are processed.
  • Use measurement tools to verify dimensions and tolerances, ensuring all parts meet specified requirements before moving to the next stage.
  • Perform material handling tasks, including pulling the correct material from inventory, staging materials for cutting, and moving finished product within the warehouse.
  • Prepare finished sheet metal products for shipment by organizing, labeling, and placing them in designated areas according to shipping and packaging procedures.
  • Complete all required safety training during the initial onboarding period and apply safety protocols consistently while operating equipment and handling materials.
  • Shadow experienced operators during the first week to learn machine operation, warehouse processes, and safety standards, then transition to working independently.
  • Operate equipment and handle materials in a safe manner, using appropriate PPE and following lockout/tagout and other safety procedures as required.
  • Support general warehouse operations, including maintaining a clean and organized work area and assisting with material movement as needed.
  • Communicate with supervisors and team members about production status, material needs, and any equipment or safety concerns.
  • Follow company policies and procedures related to quality, safety, and productivity throughout the shift.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating a saw in a production, manufacturing, or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently, particularly equipment used to cut metal parts.
  • Basic understanding of CNC processes or prior exposure to CNC equipment in any capacity (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with machine operation involving metal parts is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand basic measurement functions, including using measurement tools to verify part dimensions.
  • Comfort working with measurement tools such as tape measures, calipers, or similar devices to ensure accuracy.
  • Experience with material handling tasks in a warehouse setting, including pulling, staging, and moving materials.
  • Familiarity with warehouse operations and workflow, including handling finished goods and preparing items for shipment.
  • Ability to follow written work instructions and job tickets accurately and consistently.
  • Capacity to work independently after training, managing time and tasks to meet production targets.
  • Willingness to complete safety training and apply safety protocols in daily work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Forklift certification is a bonus and may support broader material handling responsibilities.
  • Experience in CNC operation or working around CNC equipment is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a large warehouse or manufacturing facility is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with metal parts and related machinery in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced production environment and handle multiple tasks, such as running two machines at once.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure correct materials, measurements, and finished product quality.

Why Work Here?

You join a production environment that invests in your safety and development through structured training and hands-on shadowing before you work independently. The facility provides all necessary personal protective equipment, helping you perform your work confidently and safely. The team culture emphasizes practicality and responsiveness, including adjusting schedules when temperatures become excessive to support employee well-being. You gain valuable experience with industrial machinery and warehouse operations, building skills that can support long-term growth in manufacturing and logistics.

This position is based in a large warehouse facility on a 2nd shift schedule, typically from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. The environment is industrial, with significant open floor space and heavy equipment for cutting and handling sheet metal. The facility does not have air conditioning, but large industrial fans are spaced throughout the warehouse to improve airflow. During periods of extreme heat, management may choose to send employees home early and, depending on the situation, may still record the day as a full eight-hour shift. All required personal protective equipment is provided, including steel-toed shoes, arm sleeves, safety gloves, hard hats, and safety vests, supporting a safety-focused work environment appropriate for operating saws and handling metal materials.
