Machine Operator Collator Tender The Collator Tender (Machine Operator) is responsible for the safe operation of various types of bag machines in order to produce high quality bags. These may include, but are not limited to, shopping, merchandise, and grocery and sack machines. Responsibilities: Mahine Setup and Preparation: Loading raw materials (paper rolls, glue, etc.) onto the machine. Configuring machine settings based on bag size, type, and production specifications. Ensuring all safety guards and devices are in place before starting the machine. Operating the Machine: Stating, monitoring, and stopping the paper bag machine as needed. Adjusting machine controls to maintain product quality and efficient production. Monitoring the machine’s performance and product output continuously. Quality Control: Inspecting paper bags produced for defects (tears, improper folds, glue issues). Making necessary adjustments to ensure bags meet quality standards. Recording production data such as quantity, defects, and machine downtime. Routine Maintenance and Troubleshooting Cleaning the machine and workspace regularly to avoid jams and damage. Performing routine maintenance tasks like lubricating parts and replacing worn components. Identifying minor mechanical or electrical issues and troubleshooting to fix them or escalate major problems. Safety Compliance Following all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout during maintenance. Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Keeping the work area clean and free of hazards. Material Handling Loading finished bags onto pallets or conveyors. Handling raw materials safely and efficiently. Coordinating with warehouse or logistics for movement of materials Communication Reporting machine issues, production delays, or safety concerns to supervisors. Coordinating with team members for shift handovers or production changes. Technical Skills/Abilities: Mechanical aptitude: Understanding of how machines work, ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues. Machine Operation: Familiarity with industrial machinery, especially converting machines that handle paper products. Maintenance skills: Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs. Quality control: Ability to monitor product quality and adjust machine settings accordingly.
