Job description

The Machine Technician II serves as an advanced technical resource for manufacturing and packaging operations in a regulated cosmetic production environment. Under general supervision, this role independently operates, troubleshoots, and maintains production equipment while ensuring compliance with ISO 22716 Cosmetic GMP, FDA cosmetic regulations, and OTC drug manufacturing standards when applicable. The Machine Technician II is accountable for restoring equipment safely and efficiently, eliminating repeat failures, supporting continuous improvement, and maintaining inspection-ready operations that meet quality, safety, and productivity expectations.
1. Advanced Technical Troubleshooting & Repair - Independently diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues during production. Lead complex troubleshooting efforts, identifying root causes rather than treating symptoms. Restore equipment while protecting product quality, GMP compliance, and employee safety. Document failure modes, corrective actions, and lessons learned to prevent recurrence. Escalate complex issues using structured trigger points to Maintenance, Engineering, or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) vendors.
2. Equipment Operation, Setup & Process Verification - Operate, set up, adjust, and monitor automated and semi-automated manufacturing and packaging equipment. Perform line startups, shutdowns, sanitization verification, and complex product changeovers. Verify process requirements including fill weights, coding, torque, seals, labels, and functional tests. Ensure machines operate at optimal efficiency while meeting quality and production standards.
3. Preventive Maintenance & Reliability Improvement - Perform and lead routine preventive maintenance activities to reduce unplanned downtime. Support reliability metrics such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), MTTR (Mean time to Repair), and MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures). Identify chronic equipment losses and propose countermeasures tied to downtime, defects, or speed loss. Ensure maintenance logs, downtime records, and checklists meet cGMP documentation standards.
4. Quality, GMP & Regulatory Compliance - Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and company quality systems at all times. Ensure compliance with ISO 22716, FDA Cosmetic Regulations (21 CFR 700-740), and OTC drug requirements (21 CFR 210/211) when applicable. Perform in-process quality checks and ensure batch record accuracy and data integrity. Promptly report deviations, defects, safety hazards, or contamination risks. Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
5. Coaching, Training & Floor Leadership - Coach and support Machine Technician I and Production Operators on equipment operation and troubleshooting. Serve as a technical subject matter expert within assigned production areas. Assist supervisors with training plans and standard work development. Create or support One-Point Lessons and standard work improvements to reduce variation across shifts.
