Job description

Employment Type: Hourly 
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Shift: Third  

Position Summary:

Repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical equipment and systems in both the DSM, Margarine/Oil. Utilizing skill set, Support Production Machine Operators to increase skill level in the department. Decrease equipment down-time utilizing training and skills.maintain optimal operating condition of equipment using company approved food safety practices/policies.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs corrective maintenance and emergency maintenance on food packaging/processing equipment to maximize machine up-time.                              
  • Completion of scheduled preventative maintenance and work orders assigned to increase asset life.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment mechanical/electrical issues.                                     
  • Rebuild pumps, mills, gearboxes and other miscellaneous mechanical entities.
  • Assists Production Machine Operators in troubleshooting equipment problems.   
  • Support production operators with changeovers and machine setups to help increase skill level within production department.                          
  • Miscellaneous assigned projects/duties within the maintenance department.
  • Support the SQF Program and promote food safety
  • Hourly rate is $38.40 plus applicable shift differential. 
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Capable to perform duties of Production Machine Technician. Minor AC/DC electrical troubleshooting skills. Basic understanding of mechanical applications and principles. Basic part identification. At least (2) years of experience in a food manufacturing plant Basic knowledge of at least two of the following.. (a) Packaging equipment repair and maintenance  (b) Processing equipment repair and maintenance (c) HVAC systems repair and maintenance (d) Hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repair. Be able to Identify bearing type and size for lubrication. Be able to identify the correct lubrication and amount for the application on all lubricated surfaces.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must demonstarte mechanical competency and is able to perform some work on support equipment.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic packaging equipment
  • Basic electrical competency
  • Proficent in excel and powerpoint.
  • Proficent in JDE, able to create and close out work orders.
  • Basic use of hand/power tools.
  • Basic use of shop equipment.
  • An understanding and history of following GMP and other related food manufacturing policies.
  • Knowledge and utilization of Safety programs such as LOTO and confined space entry.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and diagrams and to understand and follow verbal instruction and basic hand drawn documents.

Typical shifts are 8-12 hours per day.   Additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends may also be required.  Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements.  In addition, certain jobs may require employees to:

  • Work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity;
  • Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used in operations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens); and
  • Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
