How much do machine learning biology jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for machine learning biology in Georgia is $44,068.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $37,200.00 and $51,100.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a machine learning biology?

A Machine Learning Biology job involves applying machine learning techniques to analyze biological data, such as genomic sequences, protein structures, or medical images. Professionals in this field develop algorithms to identify patterns, make predictions, and derive insights that can advance research in drug discovery, personalized medicine, and biotechnology. These roles typically require expertise in biology, data science, and programming, often using tools like Python, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in machine learning biology?

To thrive as a Machine Learning Biology professional, you need expertise in both computational methods (especially machine learning and data science) and a solid understanding of biological sciences, typically supported by an advanced degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R, experience using machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or scikit-learn), and working with biological databases are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective interdisciplinary communication are key soft skills for this position. These competencies are vital for translating complex biological data into actionable insights and advancing research or product development in biotechnology and life sciences.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in machine learning biology?

Professionals in Machine Learning Biology often deal with challenges such as handling large and complex biological datasets, integrating heterogeneous data types (like genomics, proteomics, or imaging), and addressing the noise and variability inherent in biological data. Interpreting results in a biologically meaningful way and ensuring reproducibility of models can also be complex, requiring close collaboration with experimental scientists. Many teams are cross-functional, so frequent communication with biologists, clinicians, and software engineers is important for project success. While these challenges can be demanding, they also offer opportunities for innovation and significant contributions to scientific discovery or medical advances.

Join an outstanding team that offers exciting job opportunities with the goal of providing the absolute best support to our customers. Here at DigiFlight we embrace integrity, innovative solutions, put our customers first and offer a highly competitive benefits package!

Description: Employ some combination (2 or more) of the following skill areas:

I. Foundations: (Mathematical, Computational, Statistical) 2. Data Processing: (Data management and curation, data description and visualization, workflow, and reproducibility)

3. Modeling, Inference, and Prediction: (Data modeling and assessment, domain-specific considerations)

Devise strategies for extracting meaning and value from large datasets. Make and communicate principled conclusions from data using elements of mathematics, statistics, computer science, and application-specific knowledge. Through analytic modeling, statistical analysis, programming, and/or another appropriate scientific method, develop and implement qualitative and quantitative methods for characterizing, exploring, and assessing large datasets in various states of organization, cleanliness, and structure that account for the unique features and limitations inherent in NSA/CSS data holdings. Translate practical mission needs and analytic questions related to large datasets into technical requirements and, conversely, assist others in withdrawing appropriate conclusions from the analysis of such data. Effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences. Make informed recommendations regarding competing technical solutions by maintaining awareness of the constantly shifting NSA/CSS collection, processing, storage, and analytic capabilities and limitations.

Education: Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of relevant experience. Associate's degree with 5 years of relevant experience. Bachelor'sDegree must be in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics Statistics, Applied Statistics, Machine learning, Data Science, Operations Research, or Computer Science or a degree in a related field (Computer Information Systems, Engineering), a degree in the physical/hard sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy), or other science disciplines with a substantial computational component (i.e. behavioral, social, or life) may be considered if it included a concentration of coursework (5 or more courses) in advanced Mathematics (typically 300 level or higher, such as linear algebra, probability and statistics, machine learning) and/or computer science (e.g. algorithms, programming, data structures, data mining, artificial intelligence). College-level requirements or upper-level math courses designated as elementary or basic do not count.

Note: A broader range of degrees will be considered if accompanied by a Certificate in Data Science from an accredited college/university.

Relevant Experience: Relevant experience must be in designing/implementing machine learning, data science, advanced analytical algorithms, programming (skill in at least one high-level language (e.g. Python)), statistical analysis (e.g. variability, sampling error, inference, hypothesis testing, EDA, application of linear models), data management (e.g. data cleaning and transformation), data mining, data modeling and assessment, artificial intelligence, and/or software engineering. Experience in more than one area is strongly preferred.
