Machine Operator – Laminating, Sheeting & Slitting

Location: Fairfield, NJ 07004

Schedule: Full-time; overtime opportunities available

All Shifts Available

Position Summary

Unifoil is seeking dependable and safety-conscious Machine Operators to operate laminators, sheeters, slitters, and other production equipment at our Fairfield manufacturing facility.

This is a hands-on production position focused primarily on safely operating and monitoring equipment. Operators typically work with assigned helpers who assist with materials and other production tasks, so employees are not expected to operate large production lines alone.

Previous experience operating manufacturing or heavy equipment is helpful, but direct experience with laminators, sheeters, or slitters is not required. Unifoil will provide training for candidates who demonstrate reliability, mechanical awareness, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely start, operate, monitor, and shut down laminators, sheeters, slitters, and related production equipment.

  • Follow work orders, production instructions, and operating procedures.

  • Monitor machine controls and equipment performance throughout each production run.

  • Make basic operating adjustments within established procedures to keep equipment running properly.

  • Work closely with assigned helpers to coordinate material movement and support efficient production.

  • Monitor materials and finished products for visible defects or other quality concerns.

  • Confirm that products meet job requirements and report any discrepancies.

  • Record production quantities, material usage, downtime, and other required information.

  • Watch and listen for unusual machine performance, including abnormal sounds, movement, or operating conditions.

  • Stop equipment when necessary and promptly report mechanical or safety concerns to a supervisor or maintenance employee.

  • Assist with routine equipment cleaning and basic operator-level care.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Follow all machine-guarding, personal protective equipment, and workplace safety requirements.

  • Communicate clearly with helpers, supervisors, quality personnel, maintenance employees, and other machine operators.

  • Support production needs by working overtime when available.

Required Qualifications
  • Comfortable working around and operating large production or industrial equipment.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions.

  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail.

  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

  • Ability to remain focused while monitoring running equipment.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a production team.

  • Willingness to learn how to operate laminating, sheeting, and slitting equipment.

  • Willingness to work overtime when available or required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous machine-operating, production, manufacturing, or heavy-equipment experience.

  • Familiarity with laminators, sheeters, slitters, printing equipment, converting equipment, or roll-fed machinery.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to recognize when equipment is not operating normally.

  • Experience working with production work orders, quality checks, or manufacturing documentation.

Training Provided

Unifoil will provide job-specific training on:

  • Laminators, sheeters, slitters, and related production equipment

  • Machine controls and standard operating procedures

  • Safe equipment operation

  • Product and material requirements

  • Basic quality inspections

  • Production documentation

  • Communication and teamwork with assigned machine helpers

Direct experience with Unifoil’s equipment is not required. Candidates with a good work ethic, familiarity with large equipment, and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to work in an active manufacturing environment around large operating equipment.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to regularly bend, reach, and perform material-handling activities.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

  • Ability to work around manufacturing noise and moving equipment.

  • Ability to work overtime based on production needs and employee availability.
